Classic & Vintage - Fuji America touring bike

I've just cleaned up a Fuji America touring bike in excellent condition with original equipment (I believe!). 18 speed with triple Sugino GP 110 crank, Suntour XC Sport 7000 derailleurs, 27" Ukai 40 spoke rear & 36 spoke front wheels, Suntour click shifters, 22.5" lugged frame using Val Lite S.I. tubing, chromed fork lug, with triple cage mounts and spoke holders. I would like to date this bike and know if it was a 'top of the line' Fuji touring bike of its day, or if there is a site similar to Vintage Trek regarding old Fujis. Thanks!

I don't know much about the different Fuji models, but that sounds like a very nice bike. Details like the three water bottle mounts and a forty spoke rear wheel weren't that common, so it sounds like this was a serious tourer. And a Sugino triple crank is a very nice crankset, particularly for touring or commuting. I've got a buddy who has an old Fuji (also Val Lite tubing) that he uses as a commuter, and he loves it.......I'm sure there are others that will know more about your specific bike-

There's could be some confusion about what model this is. The three cage mounts points to a Touring Series IV or V, which does have the "Fuji America" decal on the top tube. The "real" Fuji America is the two tone blue model and others that were produced from the middle '70's up until the later '80's. These also have the "Fuji America" decal on their top tube. Either way, very fine bicycles and a good find.

Fuji Americas were made from 1975 to 1983, then made a brief reappearance in 1987. The 1975-1983 ones were top of the the line, not so sure about the 1987 model, might have been next to top of the line. Sounds like you have a 1987 model.
