Hey all;

Just wanted to show off my new addition to the family.

Trek xo1 55 CM with Ultegra Cranks, Cassette, FrontD, and Hubs.
DurAce RearD, BB. Campy Wheels. Carbon Handlebar and Easton EM90 Stem. It weighs in at about 20.5 lbs. Here is a Pic.

I'll be doing my first race this weekend with it. I'm Ready....

Sweet bike. Noticed you have flat bars. Do you prefer them over standard drop bars for racing?

Good luck at your race!

I'm just more comfortable with the flat bar. Even on my roadbike I hardly go into the drops only when decending hills will i drop down. I've talked to some people and they said the only times they go into the drops for cyclocross is at the start, otherwise they hardy use the drops.

I think Rich switched to a flatbar Cross Bike (Kona) maybe he has some better experience on the subject. Chime In Rich.....

Hector,
Sweet looking bike. :beer:
I didn't know you rode Cyclocross? Where and when will you be racing?

Maybe one of these Saturdays or Sundays we can finally do that SC Trail ride. ;)

Nice bike. I think hammering in the drops is part of the fun in cyclocross, personal preference I guess.

Let me first start by saying i'm new... dumb question but Cyclocross is hybrid racing? with drop down handle bars?
Off-road stuff? Sounds awesome if it is... and I love this bike...

Hey RonH;

I have never done Cyclocross, but there is a race at Southern Polytech in Marietta on Saturday. Some of my riding buddies from my Sat group ride talked me into it. I've been shopping for a cross bike for a couple of months and I picked this up last week on Ebay. The timing just came out right for the race. I was going to race my old Mtb but now I got this!!!!!

Hi Primal,

Nice Trek! My Kona is actually a MTB, but when I had my Alan Cross bike I did like the drop bar position...more for the fact that I mainly ride using the brake hoods.

A few cross riders use flat bars here in the UK, but it seems the majority prefer drop bars.

Angryhybrid, in response, Cross bikes are quite alot simular to Hybrids, but the geometry is slightly different, and gearing usually has two or one chainring at the front, and either 8 or 9 cogs at the back.

Cross bikes also tend to have more mud clearance for tires, and no waterbottle mounts.

Hope that helps

Rich
