Hello! I am a 50 plus Florida native. I commute 22 miles a day 5 days a week on a weakly modified department store mountain bike. When I can pull top gear the entire trip against the ever present headwind, I will consider moving up to a more suitable ride. There are so few commuters here in southernmost Florida that the only bike path virtually deserted.

Thursday, I got owned by a retired couple on a tandem. Note to self, never race a tandem team while on a mountain bike in strong headwinds.

Welcome to BF.
Congrats on the commuting.
I'm originally from Orlando. Employment moved me to Atlanta in 1992.

I'm 61 and didn't want to wait for some "special occasion" to upgrade. I upgraded from a 1999 Raleigh R600 road bike to my Litespeed in 2001. Many happy miles on it.
Lots of happy miles on my commuter too. But my commute is only 8.5 miles one way.

You'll find lots of interesting, usually friendly, ;) knowledgeable, and helpful people here, so enjoy yourself.

That Nova Cyclocross is what I envision for a commuter. I'm going to have to shop for some serious lighting. One half of my commute is in total darkness some is on the shoulder strip of US 1 itself. At least now, Miami-Dade County is finally extending the Busway with bikepath all the way to Florida City. It should be ready to use in another year or so.
