...Hobbling around on crutches with a broken fifth metatarsil in my right foot that is, suffered ironically, from a stumble off of a handicap ramp in my office.
So the next six weeks will be spent hobbling around on crutches as a titanium screw in the bone aids in healing the fracture. I was supplied with rather crude aluminum crutches of the pharmecy and surgical supply variety by the foot doctor, and I subsequenly argued for a pair of lightweight carbon fiber ones with aerodynamic profiling and shock absorbers at the base. Sadly my request was denied, and I will be paying a visit to my LBS for some cycling stickers for the crutches and some corkribbon for the hand and elbow rests. Then I plan to go to the punk rock store a few doors down and get some crutch decorations from there as well (picture Campagnolo meets the Misfits). Either way, hobbling around on crutches is not to dissimilar from cyclocross. I had to take the crutches from the pavement through a grassy area to reach a more crutch-accessable entrance to my building. Facing a flight of stairs gave new meaning to the term "run-up", even if I wasn't exactly running.
So alas, my Cannondale cyclocross will be sitting idle for the next two months (I'm sure Sven Nys can breathe a sigh of relief!). I will be closely following the upcoming Cyclocross World Championships January 28th-29th. Otherwise, don't expect many postings from me dealing with actual tales of my psuedo-cross riding here in DC for the next two months. To the rest of you until then, enjoy a little 'cross for me and be careful walking down those handicap ramps.
