Mountain Biking - who here has a gary fisher

hey im new and i was just wonderin who here has a gary fisher mtn bike or full sus. ive got a gary fisher hoo koo e koo with avid disc brakes and a manitou magnum r fork

Hey i have a '02 big sur w/ manitou black.Mysisterinlaw has a marlin and fatherinlaw has a tassajara. We all love them. The bike has realy improved my riding.Of course the gt i had before didn't fit me that well and the fisher fits me perfect. Anyway welcome to the forums.

I had a Z-1, it was a '98 model I think! All polished aluminum with yellow decals and a RS Judy (yellow) fork.

I bought it when a shop in town was having a "going out of business" sale, I got it for a song!

I ended up cracking the frame. An inherant design flaw in that design. I got a warranty replacement and sold it!

I do however work part-time at a shop that is a GF dealer. Their new products are nice. I just sold a co-worker a new Tassajara and he loves it!

I've got an older Gary Fisher Hookoo E koo from '96. It came with a R.S. Indy C, STX derailleurs and WTB primal raptors (probably the worst tires ever madeJ).

I still ride mine once in a while. It's a fun bike and I'm amazed how it has withstood the abuse I put it through....

I have an old Joshua X0 from '96. Great bike back in the day, now a bit out dated, but still rides well.

I've got a '93 MT Tam that I've completly rebuilt. The frame is great, it takes a lickin' and keeps on keepin' on. It's a bit heavy for a hardtail at 29 pounds though.

I've got an older SUPERCALIBER not sure of the year but it was just before the v-brakes showed-up. I don't ride it often anymore but I used to beat it regularly. It's held up great. The only major component I've replaced is the bottom bracket. I did come with a stupid "anti chain suck device" that bolted on near the crank. It was designed to keep the chain from sawing through the lithium aluminum frame. Apparently it did this by moving into the path of the chain so you couldn't move the pedals. My anti-chain-suck-device is in the woods somewhere about as far as I could throw it from the trail.

I have a 2001 GF Sugar 3, with the stock Bomber Z3 Air, and Cane Creek AD5. The only upgrades I have added are:

Hope C2Pro Hydraulic Brakes front and rear
XT hubs
Sapim Race Spokes
Sun DS1-XC Rims
Raceface Prodigy XC Cranks and Rings

I just bought a 2003 Tassajara and love the genesis geometry so much. One thing concerns me, though. Some dealers in my area seem to stop carrying GF bikes. When I was shopping around, one dealer said: "We stop carrying GFs because for every 100 Specialized bikes sold, we only sell 10 GFs." Well, I am wondering what the future holds. Any GF dealer here that can clear this up for me?

Well the dealer i got mine from doesn't carry many at all.Hea carries mostly c'dale and trek and some giant.But of these he will try to talk everyone into the fisher.He loves them but the other brands are more recognized(trek,c'dale).The fishers are just not as "popular".Oh well i love mine!

I have a custom 2000/01 Sugar 1 (2000 rear triangle, 2001 front) (Crossmax rims, Thomson stem and post, Easton CT2 bar, XTR shifters and derailers, Avid Ti brakes and Avid Ultimate brakes, Race face NextLP cranks with RF BB, Shimano 959 pedals, King Headset, SelleItalia SLR saddle, Rock Shox 2001 SID SL with 2002 bushings, SRAM PC99 chain). The only thing left on it from when I first bought it is the rear triangle and the rear shock. I have replaced the front triangle twice as the frame has cracked in the weld near the main pivot (common problem). Raced with it all year with no problems.


I also have a 2000 special edition SAAB Supercaliber frame that I have built up as well.

My family has, as of three days ago (when the newest one was added) a total of 5 fishers. Three people in our family, and a total of...um...let's see...eight bikes in our stable, I think. We have a Capitola of unknown age, which was purchased at a college campus police auction for $40 a couple years ago. It was my daughter's primary form of transportation to work for over a year, as well as all-round errand runner, and boy, has she gotten our money's worth out of that bike! Purchased at the same auction for $60 is our big sur. We took off the wire pannier baskets, replaced some of the abused parts with nicer ones we had laying around our garage, and presto! We had created my daughter's lightweight sweet hardtail that she uses for family rides in the mountains. This bike also came with a functioning computer (enduro) and a headlight that I still use as a back-up on most of our night rides! All this after sitting out in the weather for who-knows-how long in the police pen. When I saw it, I knew I had to rescue it, but I didn't know how much my daughter (and close family friends) would enjoy this bike, or how sweet it would become with just a few used parts. I got a horrible sunburn that day waiting for them to bring it out to auction, because none of the auction workers wanted to touch it. You see, it had sat out in the elements so long that the grips had melted into a sticky, nasty mess that no one wanted to touch! It was well worth the wait, the sunburn, and the $60. Everyone who has ridden it has loved it. Afew rides on it inspired one of our riding buddies to save his money up to purchase an '05 big sur ac/dc, and now he too, is in love with his bike! My husband and I each have a 2000 sugar 4, purchased new, and as a pair in early 2001 when they were closing them out, almost 2 for the price of one. We are particularly fond of these bikes, they have shown us thousands of great miles, I am actually still in love with mine...the honeymoon is not over. The newest one just arrived three days ago, and it is mine. It is a slightly (and I mean slightly!) used '04 sugar race. I actually tried to purchase a new one from my local bike shop in the fall of '04, but was told there were none left in our region. Now I'm glad I didn't, because I can use some of the money I saved buying this used one to replace the integrated xt shifter/brake levers, which I fear can never be adjusted to fit my hands or riding style. That's a whole other subject, though. Other than that, this is a dream bike for me, and I plan to spend part of today tweaking it to my liking. It is not completely built up yet, as it came to me in pieces, and our mechanic, the local fisher dealer, is supposed to do the final touches on wednesday. (he has the headset spacers I need to complete the job) CAN'T WAIT 'TILL WEDNESDAY!!! We just love our fishers to pieces in this family, because they serve us well.

I have a 98 aquila, that we affectionately refer to as the "frankenfisher". the origonal wheels have been replaced with sun ringle RPM lites, the shock is now a bright yellow judy sl, the new red KORE seatpost is topped by a black and blue fizik nisene. the original stx levers and shifters are now xt, and there is a new xtr rear cassette, and there is an azonic stem on it. and a couple of zip-ties and pieces of electrical tape holding things together. and some atac pedals, to replace the stock platforms.
who needs a post 1999 bike?

Had a 97 Joshua X0 which I sold and now I have a Marlin and my wife has a Wahoo.

My son rides a Gary Fisher (03) Marlin ... it is bulletproof for a 10 year old

Well, this thread seems to have been dragged up from the past, but what the heck . . . I love my GF so here it goes:

I've been on my new 2004 Tass for about a month now (purchased on clearance in June 2005) and absolutely love it. I had an older Trek 850 which I hated to see go but man . . . there's just no comparison. The Tass is light, fast, fits me well, and climbs like a mountain goat.

The only thing that caught me off guard is the bike length. I carried my Trek in the back of my Pathfinder laying virtually flat with the front wheel pointed up about 30 degrees; the Tass has got to be a good 3 inches longer (I guess that is the genesis geometry at work and why the bike feels so good) and I have to have the front wheel up at 90 degrees just to get it in the back.

The bike is such a pleasure to ride, I take it out every chance I get (coffee breaks, lunch breaks, etc...) even if it is only for 10 minutes.

Unfortunately I hurt my back about a week after I got it so I haven't been able to take it on any trails, but man am I looking forward to that now that I'm actually able to walk upright again. ;)

Mine's a Big Sur. I think it's an '01 (bought it used last year). It has really improved my riding. The Genesis frame is unique and may not be the best fit for everyone...but it works really well for me. LX with XT rear, Avid brakes...the fork and wheels aren't anything special - but it's a nice ride.

I've got a Wahoo hard tail. Bought it in, oh 95 or 96 I guess. No suspension and very heavy. Great for the copilot seat to carry my son around in though!

Wife will more than likely get a piranha tomorrow. She has it down to a rock hopper disc and a piranha. She test rode the rockhopper and like it. Fisher piranha had to be built and setup...should be done tomorrow they said. If it was my decision i would probably get the fisher.
