Track Cycling: Velodrome Racing and Training Area - Sugino 75 and chainline

I have recently acquired some Sugino 75 Cranks, as I set out to install them on a 107mm Shimano UN73 Bottom Bracket I encountered a snag. It seems that there is a gap, approximately 1/4", between the center of the chainring and the face of the cup. This has undesireable effects on my chainline, not to mention the gap looks really weird (the same gap appears on the non-drive side too). I was previously told that with track hubs the Shimano bottom bracket and the Sugino Cranks would provide a straight chainline - needless to say I no longer believe this.

Does Sugino use a different taper than Shimano? Has anyone else experienced similar frustrations?

If any one out there is using Sugino cranks what bottom bracket are you using, how is your chainline, and what hubs are you using?

I would not use a 107mm BB with the Suginos if I was looking for a dead on chainline.

I use the Shimano BB-7610 track which has a width of 109mm. This works perfect with my Suginos.

My rear hubs are: Nashbar generic hub, Dura Ace HB-7600 hi-flange and Specialized/HED tri-spoke rear.

There is variance between all three in terms of chainline, but no more than 1.25mm. Not enough to make any annoying noise.

You might want to search on the SS/FG forum here at BF.. Sugino 75's are very popular for the fixie crowd, and there has been A LOT of discussion of BB's with different cranks...

As jose mentioned, I think the consensus was 109 or 110 BB for them... I think the gaps were also mentioned

Really, just spring for the Sugino 75 bottom bracket. Fits the cranks like a glove, and the symetrical 109 spindle is butter for chainline.
