Is there an Indoor a biking track near Chicago?
If so, can one use a road bike on such a track and get a TT?

I do not think so. I believe the ADT center in LA is the only indoor velodrome in the US.

Indoor tracks will typically be 250 meter, high banked tracks, so I doubt they would allow road bikes...

What is a TT?

Road bikes do get used occasionally on ADT - Roger has run some TT/Triathlon training sessions where they're allowed in small numbers and low on the track.

Thank you guys, I learned something. I need to do a Time Trial in March for 100 miles.
This area (Chicago) has no 100 mile organized tours or races until April.
That will be too late. Closest thing I found is in Ohio and not sure it is officially timed.
Any good ideas? This is not my idea. This tour leader insists on it.

100 miles TT race??? sorry??? 160 kms TT? u mean Team TT race??? thats freaking long dude...

Well it is winter so why u dont get a 1500 hurdles meters trainer person??? Or maybe and 800 /400/200 meters trainer??? Hope u got the idea... U have to be strong and not so fast but fast enough. U can learn that from any 800 or 1500 meters atlete. I know I sound crazy but It will work. Then mix that traning with the bike. Go out to do only regular cadence for 1 or 2 hours, 52x18 , 39x15. Regular pace u know. Nothing fancy because the hard work will be done in the Atletes track... The only thing u need is put miles on u. The feet running training will do all the trick.

I used to do at the begnining of the season or when out of track season traning with sprinter atletes. 100 and 200 meters. The 200 meters guys help me a lot in the final rush when atacking the last 50 meters in a spinter race. POWEEEEEEEEERRRRRR thats what u get hehehe... 100 meters atlete sprinter traning will give the speed and the fast start... the surprise.. the reflexes...

Well im only an old style cyclist.. do not listen to me too much :) But consider what I'm saying :)

I am probably using the wrong terms for this question. Let me use simple language.
I need to do 100 miles on a bike in six or less hours on a reasonably flat road or track.
This is not all that difficult since I have done so many times.
Problem is that it needs to be certified by some official. That is where I have a problem with in the month of March in Chicago area.

no track in the World will let you go and do a 100mile TT unless you are some kind of pro who can book the whole thing out for a day and use it. And road bikes are a no-no on proper tracks.

Probably a lot of tracks in the US would let you go 100 miles on them-- a lot of them get used a lot less than we'd all like, and are run by parks and rec departments that don't really understand track racing.

Some of the less busy ones are probably cheap or nearly free, and might even have some people come out to time you, if only out of curiosity to see if you die of boredom, but you probably have to bring your own people to count laps. A 250 m track is ~6 laps/mile, so you're talking 600 laps. That would be easy to lose count of. If you can do that without dying of boredom you deserve some kind of award. If you need a really official time, the expensive part is going to be paying a USCF official, which isn't all that expensive in the grand scheme of things, but it seems a bit silly.

Forest City is 138 m - it's a blast to ride, but I think I wouldn't want to spend 100 miles on it on a road bike. It was a little chilly when I visited, but quite nice. It's about a 7 hour drive from you-- detroit is about 5 hours, and london is about 2 hours further. They seem to have a pretty busy schedule, so unless you can make it interesting by having people bet on how far you go before losing your mind or something like that, it might be hard to get the 6 or so hours. They also have a pretty small gear limit - I think 81 inches, but they might waive it for you for something as nutty as 100 miles on a 138 meter track.

Road bikes are generally a no-no, but as long as you don't mix track and road bikes at the same time it can be done safely. I've even seen it done on a 250 m wood track with 43 degree banking.

If you're willing to drive a bit south, Penrose Velodrome in St. Louis might be an option. It's outdoor, but it may be far enough south to at least not be wet and snowy. I'm not sure how to get ahold of them, but you might be able to find someone from there over at fixedgearfever.com.

There's a 110k ride (about 70 miles) at our Forest City track in London Ont on Feb 12th. But it's a group ride aimed at raising money. It will be a bit quicker than "100 miles in 6 hours" too.

But Rob (the track's owner) would rent you the track for a 100mile solo effort I'm sure.
