Im not sure what has brought this upon, but insomnia is having quite the effect on me lately. For the past few days, ive been getting tired enough to take a nap (a rarity for me) around 4PM. Then when I am ready to go to sleep for the night, I wake up. Okay well on saturday nights thats okay, but i have midterms tommorow. Then i dont fall asleep for some time after, like now. I feel fully energized, ready to face the day. Does anybody have any advice they can offer to solve this problem? Plus, I am just getting over a nasty cold and really would like the sleep..

That late afternoon nap is tripping you up. Same thing happens to me, even if its just a 15-20 minute snooze. You've gotta fight the urge to lay down at that time. Maybe try an energy drink every day around 3pm?

Yup:)
I take a nap and stay up all night... I am at work!... SOUNDS LIKE INSOMINAC!
Dozzing off!
You can try to fight through the 4:00 drowsies by taking a short walk. That's usually enough to break me of my 2:00 drowsies ('cause I'm at work). A quick walk around the plant and I'm ready to go.
It's especially hard if you have to read or study while you're sleepy. I've fallen asleep on my textbook more than once!

Insomnia sucks. I have a dose of it right now. I feel like riding my bike until I pass out somewhere. This is frustrating.

Ha! You can join insomnia club. Peregrine and I are members.

Thanks, but I don't want to be in that club. I wanna sleep! I guess I'm now a trial member til my sleeping patterns go back to normal. Nice avatar btw, but I'd focus a little more on the Kona badge, and the fork. Less busy and shows the nice crown of the fork.

Well we didn't want you in our club anyway, so there! Nyah.
Thanks for the tip on the av but I'm going to change it anyway. Still can't find one that expresses me as much as the other Kona one.....

I've been fighting it as well for the past 3 years. Here are some things that have helped me:
-- Be careful not to consume ANY caffeine. Some products try to sneak it it, like Guarana.
-- Get enough food. Apparently if you go to bed with an energy deficit, your body
might release adrenaline in an attempt to manufacture the energy it needs.
-- Never take naps.
-- Always get up at the same time (this has helped the most).
-- Go to sleep only when tired.
-- Don't lie away 'calculating' how many (or few) hours there are to sleep.
There are so many factors; these are just the ones that helped the most for me.
Cheers, and good luck. :)

How 'bout you and your Kona in speedos at the beach doing bunny hops over sun bathers.
As for your two-person club, I can't hang w/ you guys. I finally fell asleep about 2 hrs before I had to get up. But thanks for your bi-polar attitude regarding club membership. :p

It's okay. I only invited you just to be polite. And I don't wear speedos, thankyouverymuch.

Thank you. If I'm still not sleeping at 1 am again tonight, I'll make sure to post about how annoying it is.
Well, since the thread has been completely hijacked, it's safe for me to say:
"Insomnia is nothing to lose sleep over..."

You know me, I'll be here for ya.
I also suffer from a slight bit of insomnia. It takes me a long time to fall asleep, usually about an hour, and that's when it is completely quiet in my room. I am now in a dorm room with 3 other guys who stay up til the wee hours of the night watching TV and playing video games, and I cannot get them to shut up. I haven't been getting much sleep lately, usually only about 5 to 6 hours a night. I am the kind of person who needs at least 7 or 8 hours to be able to function properly the next day, so I've been falling asleep in all my classes. Caffeine has no effect on me, so that isn't a solution. Until I move into my house next year and get my own room, I guess I'll just try to survive on only 5 or 6 hours of sleep.

Lucky you. Try 3-4 hours. My brain is mush.

Talking, Danno? There's something else besides talking that might be more enjoyable and effective and that would leave you very pleasantly tired...Bah! Ever since I got married, the wife won't let me bring the mistresses to bed anymore... :(

Boy, lemme tell ya, I wish I had me some insomnia last night. Cuz what I had was much, much worse. Something I ate must've gone bad and I was in the bathroom ALL night re-discovering the joys of praying to the porcelain god. And did I mention the chills? I couldn't get warm enough no matter what I wore. And the dehydration! Man, was that fun.

That was as nice as I could put it. I finally got some sleep just now. The benefits of working from home. ;)
