I'm signed up for the sprint distance in june. I'm wondering about the mtb course. How technical is it?
I'm riding it on one of the following configurations:
cyclocross bike
full rigid single speed
single speed with front suspension.
Can I pull it off with option 1 or 2 or do I have to go with option 3. I'm not a great mountain biker, but I'm also not too worried about my time.

Any mountain biker will tell you that it is completely non-technical. Any triathlete who didn't come from a mountain biking background will tell you that it is very technical.
I would definitely use suspension. Several of my clients, including a world-ranked pro, always used at least front suspension bikes on that course.

It's very technical for where it is located. It's in the middle of the city; next to the starting line are several skyscrapers. You won't find any long climbs, just some short steep ones. These aren't technical.
Don't get me wrong, the course is great. I ride it at least 3x a week on it as I live just a couple miles away. It's one of the most technical trails in the area I'd say, but there have been quite a few that have called it "easy".
Good luck and I'll see ya at the race. :D

THe description makes it sound comparable to shaeffer farms. Does that sound about right?

I'd go suspension for sure, though in all fairness I'm far more of a roadie than a mountain biker---I get sketched out on Buttermilk Trail if that means anything. Personally, I'm going to be having fun on the Xterra 10k scramble, so good luck to everyone racing this year.
