Somewhere, I remeber reading that when the Shimano 600 label was dropped, it became something else-was it Ultegra? Does anyone know how the lineup went prior to the current stuff? I'm probably talking late 80's on up here.
Thanks,
Rich

Thanks,
Rich . Became just ultegra with the change to 9 speed in 1997? prior to that the 8 speed stuff was often called ultegra but had just the 600 logo on the parts. Was also 600 or 600ex back thru 7 speed to 6 speed index stuff in about 1985.

Ultegra is considered better quality in the current Shimano lineup, would 600 have also been better quality then?
Thanks,
Rich

Shimano's product line has gone through a whole lot of changes over the years. Some of them are documented here. (http://datenbanken.freepage.de/traut/SHIMANO.html)
