Bicycle Mechanics - Summer is here. Check your fasteners.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

If you live in a climate with four seasons and have just passed from winter to summer, be sure to check any threaded part of your bike.

With the cold/freezing temperatures of winter and the subsequent warming, threaded fasteners can loosen.

Check EVERY threaded fastener (nut, bolt, screw, etcetera).

This can include your brake assemblies, your headset, bottom bracket and crank, even the accessories mounted on your bike like your cyclocomputer and lights.

Better to spend five minutes checking now than be crippled on the road by a loose part.

...which beats walking down the road looking for these valuable bits of hardware.

Oi to that. Hey, Mike, is the Schwinn Forum dead forever? I didn't like it at its dying gasp, but I do miss some of the good times.

Well, Schwinn said it would be up in March, then April, now it's May. As long as they keep updating the notification that the restart is coming, there is hope.

Toward the end of the last run, though, it wasn't fun anymore. I thought it was a ball about year 2000 or so. After they closed it for maintanance and re-opened, a lot of the good contributors didn't come back and some new yet foul contributors entered - and that was the beginning of the end, as you know.

Let's hope the Schwinn forum comes back as a good collector forum. For the stories, and general commaradarie, bikeforums.com has collected some good contributors. For bike collecting, some of the knowledgeable guys still get together at www.oldroads.com, though without the ability to add photos, it isn't as neat as the Schwinn forums were.

Anyway, Oscar, I am glad to see you are here on BkeForums.com

Oops, sorry Oscar. the Schwinn forums just opened up again yesterday!

It looks like it is off to a good start already. Have a gander.
