Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. --- What is the ratio of the number of miles you drive a motor vehicle to the number of miles you bicycle?

For me in 2005 it was ~15:1

Motor = grocery run once every 2 weeks.

I really have no idea. For 2005, I didn't do so well, I'm guessing somewhere around 8:1 driving/cycling.

I'm in the January Commuting challenge, and see no reason to stop come the end of January. For this month so far I'm 160:400 motor:bike, so 2:5.

In my defense, I will note that so far this monthi, I have put zero miles on a car when I was the only occupant; all my miles were shuttling kids, taking pets to the vet, etc.

About 1:1, although I share a car with my wife so I'm not sure about the driving miles. Our 4-year-old car has 21,000 miles between us and I rode about 3800 miles last year.

Hard to say because I don't have rental car miles recorded but I had ~8000 on my car and ~5500 cycling so I'd estimate 2:1.

(bike miles)/(car miles) >> 1

About 100 miles of driving versus 150 biking miles a week. So, roughly 1.5 miles biking for every mile of driving.

I'll happily drive a 200 km round-trip to ride a 15-km dirt loop. Ratio is something like 10:1 or even 20:1, and I'm on my bike 300+ days each year. 6 months of that is in the winter...

I started commuting to work in July, and I keep a record of miles biked (either commuting or recreational), so for the the six months of 2005:

Total miles biked: 2523
Commuting miles: 1628
Recreational: 896

Miles driven: 1800

So, that's be a ratio of 1.40 total miles biked to 1 mile driven.
Commuting miiles only, the ratio is 0.9:1 (and I think this is a more accurate ratio, since I'd put on the "recreational" miles wether or not I was driving.

Probably about 500:1.
I think I drove a car about once last year.

Driving:cycling about 1:3 for me in 2005. That includes a road trip through Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and back to Colorado.

2005 Driving 9,000 miles vs 2005 Commuting 3,000 miles, so 3:1 ratio but we drove 5,000 miles on vacation last year, something we rarely do. A normal year is about 4,000 miles driving so I would usually have 1.33:1 driving to cycling. Not bad for a Republican!

I don't have a cyclocomputer. I don't know the ratio even roughly, but I definitely drove more miles than rode in 2005. Maybe not. But since one drive to a family reunion in South Carolina can wipe out a whole month or two's riding, I'm not sure if that's a good measure. My ratio of days riding to days driving is 12 to 1. For round trips under 50 miles, I'll ride most of the time (exceptions are emergencies, airport, and transporting mass quantities like plywood and roofing shingles). Over 500 miles... I'm driving. Over 1,000... I'm flying.

i'm about 5:1 driving:biking but almost all of those miles are road trips to either visit my family(cleveland) or to see my girlfriend(madison or greenbay)...those miles add up quick.... If I didn't have to leave champaign it would probably be the other way around considering I commute on my bike every day and rarely drive when I'm in champaign.
