Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Why I Miss The Summer

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I ride in the winter, but I miss how much easier it is to WILE OUT when it's warm outside. That's all.

I am looking forward to:
Sun after 5 pm.
Scenery at North Avenue Beach.
The backyard at the Happy Village.
Hour after hour on the back porch, drinking High Life and tending to ribs.
Biking without gloves.
Rainbow sandals.

I think the Rainbow Sandals belong on the rocks near Belmont Harbor.

I've got sirius and a 45 minute commute, I hear it two or three times a week (when I drive in the car pool), seriously, it's funny now. I never liked him on fm, but he's actually pretty damn funny now, and it's not just f-bombs, he just seems more relaxed, and things just flow, it's awesome.

sounds boring. :p
Also, you don't get to enjoy the secure, snuggly feeling of tight-fitting whole-body thumb-hole-sporting teched-out long underwear.

Smog isn't really that bad here and we still get cold in LA because we're wimps when it comes to temperature. Ask Vomitron...he wears poly pros under his shorts when its 60 degrees. When its around 50 we all yell **** its cold, and shiver.

haha - Chicago's air quality isn't too bad. In the summer, it smells like hotdog and beer vomit on the northside - or awesome Asian food as you cruise through certain areas of Uptown.
As far as "cold" weather in LA - I wore shorts. Yeah, thick blood is a good thing sometimes. I just want mine to thaw permanently...lousy friggin snow

I long for days where I wasn't in 5 layers of clothes for a 15 minute bike ride. I miss shorts and t-shirt weather.

"winter" in nyc this year has been around 40 degrees, so it's mostly the dark that bugs me.
i miss summer days in the park, everyone pinicing on a blanket and dicking around on fixies, trying to do backwards circles and stuff.
i ran into my ex-wife the other day.
then i backed up and ran into her again.

I miss having the desire to ride after work. It's just too damn dark and cold. And this friggin' wind! Enough already!

i miss summer because then you really want to take long rides to nowhere for no reason.
i'm looking forward to spending less time cleaning my drivetrain and losing my fenders.

Someone mentioned taking forever to get dressed for a 15 minute ride. Righty O on that..
I spent 15 minutes getting clothes on. Then 5-10 on pulling my hair back (I suck at that for some reason).. road to the store for some stuff. Then road back. My ears literaly were burning on the inside when I came in. That wind here in NC is not fun.
Im not a baby though.. it was fun :P
i'll be excited to take the fender off of my bike and put some slicks back on it instead of the cross tires I have on it now
i miss the summer because..wait..all we have is summer. i don't want frigid winters but a little change in the seasons would be nice.

falling ill during the summer just doesn't seem as bad.
I miss riding and drinking for fun as opposed to sipping the flask
for warmth :(

I dunno man I miss the summer for a bunch of reasons but few of them have to do with bikes. The London winter is mild enough to provide some damned fine riding weather every once and a while. Like last night for instance when a thin shell jacket and some thick gloves kept the body perfect at near alleycat speed for about an hour. The rain, dark, and gray kinda suck though.
But seriously? Can any day be bad when you can ride your bike? If even only 15 minutes round trip to the store?
this thread is seriously NOT HELPING!

yeah, i think the wind around here has been the worst part of winter so far. i don't mind the cold that much, as long as i have gloves and something over my ears. it's just the humbling cross and headwinds that get to me.

Sorry I have to disagree. Winter rocks.
Less traffic in the bike lane. Plus whoever you see outside you know they can't be that much of a loser, they are riding their bike on a 30 degree day. Plus you never have to worry about clothes, whatever you are wearing you will still be cold.
Plus, how many times this year have you said "38 degrees?!?!? BALMY! I have to ride!" Get outside man! it's 45 degrees in chicago!

Evan, you KNOW I'm with you, but even you, Mr. Bike Winter, misses lounging in the grass on the lakefront with some tallboys and your bike.

true true. In general I do miss being able to be comfortable outside while NOT bicycling. Whether I be walking, drinking, smoking a cigarette, grilling, or just sitting on the balcony reading a book.
But we have a looooooong time to wait for those two months of summer.

I am probably gonna take it easy on saturday. I'm riding tonight (possibly not the route) and doing critical mass tomorrow.
