I just got a call from company that I submitted a resume to yesterday to do a telephone in interview tomorrow. Ugh, its gonna be brutal, I'm terrible over the phone, much better face to face, but I guess its nice to see my resume and cover letters starting to get noticed.
Funny how I just signed up for a presentation by my school on how to do an over the phone interview, too bad thats not for another week...
Look at the bright side... you can do the interview in your jammies :D

I've done a LOT of phone interviews in the last year or two. Some are easy and some are brutal. I don't know what your occupation/area is, but mine is technical and it always seems more difficult to answer any technical questions that require thought and/or computation over the phone. It feels more comfortable in person where you can grab a piece of paper or whiteboard and begin to write things down where they can see you know what you're talking about.

Just be honest, give them what they want. Try not to get too complicated, for it may cause confusion. Don't forget to kiss butt. :D And good luck!

Maybe you should call a friend and practice?
Good luck.

I'd strongly suggest wearing the same clothes you'd wear if you went in to the office for a face-to-face interview. It really helps put you in the mindset for an interview. Turn off your cell phone and get any distractions out of the way.
Other than that, just relax and give honest answers.
Good luck!!

Don't worry, phone interviews are just to make sure you aren't a complete idiot. Just don't do stupid crap like let them hear you typing queries into google when they ask you questions.
Ask lots of questions about the company. It shows you're interested, plus the more time they're telling you about themselves, the less time they have to ask you questions ;).

heck, you can do it naked sitting on the couch watching hockey with the mute turned on jiggling your....... nevermind... have a beer while you're at it too.
Have a porno on in the background. Everyonce in a while, increase the volume then mute it after a split second. You can also fake a telephone ring from your cellphone then say, "oh, this is important, please hold. GOOD MORNING MR. PRESIDENT!, yes sir!" or "please hold, WASSUP DAWG! What?! I didn't get the job? How he gonna be like that, son, ****, n***a please! Yo, I got my 44, you ready to roll tonight? Aight. Ok.. I'm sorry, going back to your question about my previous experience?"

I agree with that 100%. Especially the "get distractions" out of the way....get any kids/pets in another room (or out of house). Let any friends/family who call you often know so they aren't calling during the interview (I've had that happen).

I've only had one phone interview. I was temping at the time, and the interviewer knew it. I had to schedule my lunch for later so I could do the interview then. Unfortunately, my cellphone wouldn't get reception in the area of the building I worked, and it was pouring rain outside, so I had to do it in the employee entrance of the retailer I was temping at. We constantly had to pause because of thunder or women in heels clacking on the tile floor.
Apparently I did well enough that I went in for two more interviews. For whatever reason, they chose not to hire me.
