my khs aero recently went under the perverbial knife. i bought if off some swindler from across the pond who failed to inform me that there was a crack in the headtube/downtube weld. i just sent my awesome KHS aero in for some rewelding and maybe even throw some track dropouts on. i got some news last night that the headtube was grinded thin. what that actually means, i dont know, but i will be finding out on tuesday morning. anyways, my point being... does anyone have an early 90's khs aero, either road or track, frame. the one with the curvy seat tube? CURVY SEAT TUBE! that's why i love it so much. the wheelbase is nice and tight. i love the geometry of this frame. i dont have any links i could give you to show you my ride. does anyone have this same model frame that they are willing to sell? i'm sick of putting money into this thing if it's actually a pile of ****. anyone have a khs aero that is in better condition than mine?

for some people that's not a make-or-break point.

where's the bar clamp on that stem??? i can't tell from the pictures

its hidden inside the stem... dura ace ax model stem.

shants
01-26-06, 09:46 AM
it's internal. there is a wedge inside of the top piece of the stem that you tighten down onto the bars from the corner where the main wedge bolt is.

What about the quality of tubing? Or lack of lugs?

In short, this is not a frame I'd invest (guessing) about $100 bucks in to have a tube replaced.

yea... this is all great. and i do love that white KHS, but does anyone have one to sell?

So...if the curved seat tube is so sexy, why aren't more people gaga over TT bikes? Is it the gears and aero bars that freak people out?

it might help to indicate what size you're looking for.

i'm bad at sizing myself for bikes. i'm about 6'

i like the seat tube too, you dont see that very often.

sorry, but for a production bike, the KHS is dead sexy. good lines, nice clean setup, everything's right with the world. That curved seat tube...

Yeah, unicrown, whatever. I just wish it was mine, so i could ***** about it.

as for the TT/pursuit thing, the KHS has a level top tube. i think people are freaked out by the idea of riding a sloping top tube in traffic, and probably for good reason.

I remember talking with you during the Poker Ride about getting the work done (we talked between the 1st and 2nd stop).

Depending on how much you love the frame you may be able to swap out the busted tubes. I know of atleast one frame builder in the area (up in Geneva) who has True Temper tubing around (thats what the aero seat tube is made of).

the frame really isnt worth that much. i bought it for around 400 including hte currancy exchange and all that shipping and ****. putting another 250 in it for the crack and new dropouts almost isnt worth it. i could buy a new frame.

i remember talking to you too... still wanna trade!?? ha!

gregg

Hmm, trade is off for a few months. We can talk in the spring!

If you want to get the tube(s) and droupouts replaced check out Courtney Custom: http://www.cccycles.com/ and http://www.cccycles.com/repairs.html

They are somewhat local and Troy seems like a standup guy.

Those stems are super dangerous, known for breaking

really eh? i ride one on the street and it seems solid. granted ive only used it for 5 days but meh? feels nice. I use nitto for track but i use the dura ace for street because i dont need to be aero on the street.

feels stiff and solid...

Save up some cash and talk with a frame builder who carries True Temper tubes! Unless there is a hidden cache of KHS aero frames in a warehouse out there I don't think any of us have a good chance at nabbing one.

weird.. it looks like yours has a sloping tt but mine does not. was teh geometry different from year to year? where is yours stamped? if it is on the bb shell, the only letter on mine besides the serial is S and i know mine is not a small.

i noticed when mine was built up, it had a very very slight slope to the tt. maybe only a few degrees.

my bad. now that i actually look, there is no size marked. i must have just determined it was a medium based on seeing other khs frames.

the bb shell is marked with 'S 10' on one line then 'U' and the serial number below it.

as for the sloping, looks like karmikal's and the fgg bike from earlier in the thread are sloping as well.

see it was your type frame i thought i was getting, the sloping tt a surprise. a guy in berkeley the other night stopped me while in his car to tell me he just grabbed on off ebay, wait a second there's another thread for that story.
