Iron Maiden turned to sh*t after Paul D'Anno left and Metallica's last half decent album was ....And Justice for All (or maybe Garage Days Re-revisited).

I don't know too much about Iron Maiden, I just have a few songs that my friend illegaly downloaded for me (before the record company fat cats started going after kids struggling to earn a living by working at Mcdonalds.) I own all metallica albums except for Saint Anger which I bought the day it came out and proptly gave a one gun salute. I think every other CD by them is just about 95% good music. I can very much understand disliking their change after And Justice, their whole style changed. I just happen to like the newer stuff too. It sure would have been interesting if Cliff hadn't died.
I like what I've heard from Iron Maiden, but I haven't heard too much. I should buy their greatest hits album.

Does this question even need to be asked? Iron Maiden is way better than Metallica.
The real question is "Megadeth or Metallica?" and Metallica loses that one, too.
Iron maiden and old metallica.
Ironically I do like load and reload, if you consider them as alternative albums.
Motorhead!
But seriously, comparing careers on the whole, I would have to give the nod to Iron Maiden. Over a 30-year span, everything they have done (with the exception of that unfortunate Blaze Bayley period) has been consistently good. Bruce was singing for them when I discovered them, so I backtracked to the Paul DiAnno stuff. It's interesting to me that the band had almost a punk attitude with DiAnno. Maybe it's the rawness of the music when compared to the later arrangements. As for Metallica, I don't own anything past And Justice For All... When Cliff died, that band lost its direction musically and the relationship they had began to crumble. If you want to see dysfunction in action, watch Some Kind Of Monster.
In popularity, and record sales metallica wins. In originality and versatility in music, metallica wins again. METALLICA OWNS.
Judas Priest kicks all their asses!

Both bands are pretty rad, at different points in their history. Metallica just turned into a bunch of whining, asinine tools, though.

I can't believe I have to say it again, but...Black Sabbath, duh!
I can honestly say, having grown up listening to Iron Maiden, that they might just get the nod over Metallica as things stand right now. I didn't get to go, but Iron Maiden was in fine form at Ozzfest last year. 20 years ago...probably Metallica. Everything's cyclical....
If Burton were still around, I think Metallica would be running the freakin' world! Seriously....

Slayer kicks ass, EJ. They're one of my favorites, but they owe much to Black Sabbath-as do most, if not all, modern heavy bands.

Metallica's Master of Puppets is the thrash/speed metal album.
Best IM album IMO: Killers.
Best JP album IMO: Unleashed in the East (live)
Best Black Sabbath album IMO: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, followed by Vol.4, Sabotage, Heaven and Hell and Born Again.
Anyone here like Robin Trower or Rory Gallagher?

First let me say I like both Metallica and Iron Maiden. But I'd have to give the nod to Iron Maiden. A longer career, and musically, I'm sorry collectively they are the more talented of the two. Killers, Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind are true classics of metal. Powerslave and Lost Somewhere in Time are very solid too.
Ride the lightning was my favoirte Metallica album, but the Black Album is a close second.
They are both good metal bands, but Maiden is still going strong anddoing lots of gigs. Haven't heard much from the Metallica boys lately.

Well, looking at my rack of CDs, Metallica wins. ...And Justice for All being the most recent one.
Maiden's Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind kick ass though. It's a tough call.
As far as album artwork goes, Eddie is one cool mofo.
- however I have to give a nod to the work that Pushead did for Lars & Co. Inc. back in the day.
I'm still pissed that Jethro Tull got that damn grammy.

Puszone was one of my favorite parts of picking up the latest Thrasher back then. Pushead's art was awesome. Sean Wyett was another artist in that vein who was pretty rad.

I love that piece! If you will note, the board in that piece has the same shape as the Zorlac John Gibson model. Pus did most of the Zorlac graphics as well. My favorite Pushead piece is still the Misfits "Evil Eye" design.

Iron Maiden.
Like most heavy metal, Metallica is pop music with distorsion.
ok, do any of u like Guns N' Roses?
I'd say they both did some great work, pioneered styles and put out a few classics.
However having followed the whole Napster Debacle and seeying 'Some kind of Monster' i am now utterly convinced that Metallica are (candid, gotta give them that) some of the biggest redneck, money grubbing a@@holes to walk the planet. Hence i decided i will never ever buy another record by them (Long live MP3's !!) even if they put out the song that will appease the devil himself.
Plus, it isn't too likely they will put out anything i like because i also think they have sucked for the last few albums and they are too busy fighting each other.
Speaking of Pushead I can't believe Metallica perverted the Suicidal Tendencies Bass player into their evil empire (with a million bucks), now that was my favorite band! Hardcore intensity, pivotal cross over style, some classic songs, amazing lyrics, you name it. What i always loved about Suicidal is you wouldn't ever see some silly clueless Hot Topic chick sporting their T Shirt in a mall. As for Motorhead and Maiden, H & M sells their shirts for Pete's Sake! I think that blows. If you see a dude or chick with a Suicidal shirt there is a connection, you just know he diggs the band for the band (not for the hype) and is probably a pretty unusual cat to boot.

Maiden was much sillier and British. Plus they had a costumed character parading around the stage. So they get the nod.

I'll have to go with Maiden for the OVERALL-ness
Bruce is pretty damned smart too.....
Dead Kennedy's pwn any band! They sang about something meaningfull and original, a lot more interesting my book that the common rock themes.
