With luck, dude gets his ass handed to him in court. He deserves it.
that photog was in the right place at the right time. That driver is going to be screwed....although the courier allegedly keyed the car....big mistake. If you're going to do anything like that, you better make sure you're going to get the **** away. Road rage is a scary damn thing. Makes people think that stomping a wheel is an equivalent response to having your car scratched. *******.

Road rage isn't quite as dangerous in Canada, especially in Kensington Market which is the neighbourhood of Toronto this took place. That courier is definately well known in the hood and the neighbourhood will break up just about any fight unless its between crackheads. Then they may just take wagers and watch.

Actually i lived and worked in Toronto and people there tend to take things to the extreme. because Toronto is a "safe" city and people are supposed to be "peaceful" they seem to disrespect each other more without thinking of the consequences. people in New York would think twice about throwing garbage at some ******* littering because you never know if he's a psychopath. I used to see it all the time, motorists telling each other off all the time.
If you read the whole post it states that he threw garbage on the street and she picked up the garbage and threw it at him, OK its wrong to litter but she could have said something instead of throwing it at him. then it escalated from there. They are both to blame.
I think it's awesome that she threw the garbage back at him. God knows I've wanted to do that dozens of times. Damn SUV drivers...think the world is their trashcan.

I dunno, I've had to deal with some ****ups in Ottawa before. One almost smashed into two other cars trying to block me from riding.

yeah its awesome, but we don't do it, unless your prepared to fight.
in all honesty, replacing a wheel can cost a lot less than fixing a nasty car keying. i'd probably be tempted to key the car if i had coffee thrown on me, too, but i'm just sayin' that it's not something that any motorist should take lightly. you cannot always do spot finishing on a nasty keying. that said, that guy seemed like a total cockbag and got what was coming to him.
What a nimrod. Hope the hot blonde in the vest wasn't his lady.
But when you do sh*t like that, you either gotta be ready to fight or flee.

Damn near! Had that coffee hit her in the eyes (assuming that it could make its way around those oh so stylish shades) or been scalding hot, the chances of her bailing in the middle of moving traffic and getting killed or seriously injured are mad high. I'm sorry but keying a car doesn't even come close to making up for what could have been murder with a deadly (albeit delicious) weapon.
humancongereel
01-26-06, 04:50 PM
and if that had happened, he likely would have gotten away with it...to many people it would have just looked like she bailed in traffic, and no one would even look for a license plate.

uh huh.
I myself have never EVER been in a fight of any kind. Partially because of the advice my freshman roommate once gave me: "If you're ever going to be in a fight, you have to be prepared to kill the person". He wasn't psycho or anything, and I doubt he'd ever do anything like that, but the advice is basically, "if you're going to fight, you have to win that fight no matter what." Pretty straightforward. Definitely helps me control my temper. I usually try to talk my way out of fights before they happen.

in case you missed the photog's words:
"i did not see the beginning of this, but the report goes as follows:
motorist throws food out of window. courier, disliking littering, picks up food and throws food back in car. motorist dumps coffee on courier. courier scratches car with key. road rage ensues.
the courier is female. i 'got away' with taking pics by just doing it openly. nobody noticed me because the focus is obviously on the altercation at hand.
i followed the motorist back to his car to photograph his license plate number. he proceeded to open his trunk, take out a baseball bat, and charge me. i walked away, and was one of only two witnesses to stay at the scene and give a statement to police."
If someone grabbed my rear wheel like that I'd give him my meager 900 watts and cut the ends of his fingers off with my spokes.
http://www.citynoise.org/upload/7977.jpg
I'll never freaking understand why this is a forum of urban fixed gear riders, largely messenger or messenger friendly and everybody responds to stuff like this with "lets give the pig/suv driver/as***** the benefit of the doubt" Boy, that courier sure was rude! What?
has anyone ever actually been in an similar situation? Or left the house? Drivers are evil and scary because they DO NOT care if you are injured or killed. They do care about the vehicle that will be doing the killing because they've spent 20K on it, maintained it, (hopefully) spent hundreds or thousands in insurance and generally obsessed over this deadly flying castle. They do not care about anything else and there is not "forgiveness" for someone being just a person. It's an imperialistic mentailty: I'm right because I'm the driver and no one else's consequences matter.
humancongereel

who ever said to give him the benefit of the doubt?
i also agree with s_9, as hard as it is for me, i try staying out of fights the best i can. i haven't had a physical altercation in ages, but it's been tempting.
anyone who gets their panties in a bunch over a scratch on a car gets no sympathy from me. as you can see, he physically assaulted her. that is WAY out there, at least to my thinking. too many people see their cars as extentions of themselves. stupid cars.
what i get out of this is that we should all be aware of how vulnerable we are on our bikes. i've gotten randomly pushed off my bike twice, and confronted while straddling my bike two other times. it's like being handicapped, without the sympathy or natural empathy (or whatever it is called when you won't beat up a handicapped person).
as has been said, look for an escape route first, then think about teaching the sob a lesson.

after being forced into the back of a parked car, eggs thrown at me, a big gulp smashed on my back, i try to just keep my hands on the bars when i get pissed off. the way i figure, i can still yell a lot, but i avoid taking it to the ulock/keying/hand gesture level. plus it's easier to avoid the ******* with both hands on the bars.

Spineless cager should consider himself lucky after initiating and escalating the confrontation and then attacking a girl. Trashing someone's wheel is a bajillion times worse than keying a ************* car.
the girl should've used her U-lock.
as has been said, look for an escape route first, then think about teaching the sob a lesson.
exactly. i've done plenty of things on my bike that would probably make people want to kick my ass, always in response to stuff done by motorists. in fact, i've even done the exact same thing this woman did: pick up someone's trash and throw it back in their car. i've also shattered the back window on some monster truck because they through a 40 bottle at me. the key is, DON'T do **** like this without an escape route, cause they are in cars and will try to kill you! the guy who's window i trashed did an immediate u-turn and tried to run over me. i was able to ride over some train tracks and take off across a golf course (this was in baton rouge, 3am on a saturday night).
that being said, had i seen this it would have been hard for me to refrain from braining this guy.

haha... yeah totally man
If someone grabbed my rear wheel like that I'd give him my meager 900 watts and cut the ends of his fingers off with my spokes.
Always make sure they come after you first, then go down a bit, start screaming like a little girl for attention, "wahha help me! he's beating me up, help, get this crazy driver off me!" while at the same time smashing his head in with a u-lock.
This a) is self defense and b) immediately identifies to others that you're the victim who was lucky to get away with your life.

I dunno guys. You ll seem to be giving that messer a lot of latitude. Sure its stupid to throw trash out of a car but when you throw something back it becomes assualt (and could very well make a person crash and kill/injure themself or a pedestrian) and you have to be willing to deal with the consequenses. If I have a temporary loss of sanity and toss trash outside my window and someone then escalates it by tossing it back in my window they better be prepared to deal with how I'm going to react.

I agree, while the actions of the driver were not appropriate, some of the blame falls on her. If she takes this to court, she'll be paying for the keying, which will be hundreds more than a wheel.
i've been toying with the idea of carrying mace. it seems to be an easy to carry, quick and effective way to disable a driver long enough to get a licence plate # and make a getaway. i don't know how far i'd have to go to prove i gave ample warning and was attacked should i ever use it.

I don't carry a u-lock because I've got a place at work to put my bike, so as far as protection goes, good police -grade pepper spray is the bee's sharp, pointy little knees.
As for this road rager:
Maybe I'm just an old-fashioned Southern boy, but it takes a real ******babag to assault a female like that. So she was out of line for throwing trash back into his car, so what? A gentleman would've considered himself schooled and ended it there, but of course a gentlman probably wouldn't have thrown **** out of his van like some utter POS that this tool obviously is. I'd've given him a mouthful of u-lock if I'd been her.
(It's pretty funny though, a lot of Canadians come on this forum ragging on the US, acting like they live on the planet Vulcan and we're a bunch of antagonistic neanderthals, it's good to see they're human after all, LOL. )

You'll need to go to New Hampshire to buy it, though. Mace and pepper spray are illegal in Fascistchusetts. (Actually, that's not entirely true. Apparently you can buy and carry mace but you have to have a firearms license to do so.)
