Advocacy & Safety - more cyclists riding the roads on my campus

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

normally in the past my campus has been like 99% sidewalk cyclists but today (first day of classes for me) I noticed a lot more cyclists riding in the road than usual... granted the ratio of sidewalk to road cyclists is still like 3-1 over there but still

this is definitely a good thing in my opinion... I guess a lot of student bicyclists grew tired of the constant conflicts with peds, turning cars, etc... now if they could learn to wear helmets/signal turns/obey traffic laws also that would be even better

Are you speaking about that which we do not speak?

Thats interesting. Is today any special day, first day of classes for all?

The kids are out in force at USC, but the only time I see them on the road, avoiding the sidewalk, is when they are going the wrong way. But since most of them are cute coeds in miniskirts I just slow down, give them wide berth, and enjoy the show. I seriously doubt that more than a tiny percentage of these kids will continue cycling upon leaving the university.

it was actually my first day of classes... yesterday was the first day for all but the way my schedule is set up, I have Wednesdays completely off

I'm actually not sure if today was indicative of a pattern or if there were just a particularly large amount of students riding the roads on that particular day... I guess time will tell
