For those of you that don’t have quick releases on your wheels, do you have to carry two big wrenches to pop off the wheel in case you have to repair a flat? Where do you stash those wrenches?

yes, in my bag, fixed gear or track hubs don't come in quick release do they?

One wrench is all you need. Yeah, I carry at all times.

Why on earth would you need two wrenches? I carry a multitool and a 15mm box wrench. Throw a spare tube in there and a road-rash-centric first aid kit and I'm set. I also usually have a little joint in my bag too in case I wipe out and need something to sedate me a little

now that i have phils i don't need a wrench anymore, but before i did carry

I always carry spare tubes, CO2 cartridges & inflation device, Presta / Schrader adapter, 15mm wrench, Spoke wrench, Cargo straps for big stuff that won't fit in my bag, a cheap set of allen wrenches that I don't care if I lose / break, a cell phone / radio to call for and snacks.

Yep, I'm a nerd.

I bought a set of mini metric wrenches at the environment-hating Menards for $3 and change. It included a 14 / 15 mm open ended wrench, about 6" long. Perfect for my Suzue Jr. hubs.

I have a full size heavy ass adjustable in my bag. I'm just to lazy to go buy a 15mm

an adjustable wrench makes it a whole lot easier to strip the sides of your nuts and in total i carry a 15mm and 14mm(seatpost) wrench, tire levers, a spare tube, an a multitool, i never thought about it but i don't carry anything to inflate the spare tube, i probably should, luckily i've never flatted

Yeah, I carry one in my bag at all times, It's not that big/heavy compaired to a lot of stuff that I carry.

I'm not a messenger, but I carry bunches of tools in my camelback when I ride. You can rarely be over prepared

I carry one wrench. It fits in my seat bag and works for 14mm and 15mm nuts.

i carry one of these (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=00944117000&tab=spe#tab). there was an old thread where someone recommended it. works great. i keep it in my bag, with the usual- tube, CO2 cartridges, tire levers, multi-hex tool. and YES, you can get plenty of leverage to remove track nuts with it.

I usually carry a small adjustable wrench or ratchet now after a spat of annoying incidents requiring me to walk home because my dropouts are screwed up and the wheel slipped off-axis.

I JB Welded the axle to the dropouts to work around the problem of stripped threads.

I carry a 15mm wrench that I hacksawed shorter to fit into my small seatbag.

Oh man... there is this sears ratcheting box wrench that is 14/15 and each side protrudes out, so they are basically like sockets. I was about to buy one to use for my front/rear hubs, seat binder bolt, crank bolts etc... but it was like 25 bucks! I still regret not picking it up as I havnt seen it since.

i have one of the coolest tools ever made and the only one i've ever seen is the one i bought at this shop near me. it's called a fish and i think it's made by Axis (if i remember correctly, it's a bmx tool but it's basically a fish skeleton and the mouth and tail are for the headset/bottom bracket, the spines on one side are metric wrench sizes and the other side standard, the eye is for a quill stem bolt..it beats a*s!

Great idea! For me it's all about how much crap I can jam into my seatbag.

On my first feeble attempt at bicycle commuting on a borrowed bike, the crank arm fell off! After trying to pedal one footed (No proper cleated shoes/pedals) I walked to work in fury and shame.

Now, I'm packing the Crank Bros. mini tool, tubes, zip ties, velcro, pump, assorted allen wrenches, etc...

I'd pack a full Auto Mechanic's tool chest and an air compressor on the bike if I could figure out how to balance it all. :)

The jethro tool is pretty freaking handy. http://www.surlybikes.com/stuff/pop_jethro.html. I carry tools for fixing just about everything. Except when I carry nothing at all, like in Chicago.

almost the exact same stuff as me. i carry mine in my bag in a reinforced (w/ packing tape all over) ziploc bag so the wrench doesn't poke through.
i wouldn't file off the box end of my 15mm wrench because it's good for removing/installing pedals when traveleling with a bike box.

word to that, brunning. those campy wrenches are the bomb. before i scammed one of those i was rocking the surly. pretty sweet, keychain hole, bottle opener, all the goodies.

upon further consideration, i guess it's pretty useless to carry a wrench, as i haven't carried a tube, or inflation device for months

the only stuff i carry is a set of allen keys, an adjustable wrench, and a pair of needle-nose pliers with me everywhere i go. also a swiss army knife. this is about all i could ask for 90% of the time.

how much air pressure can you get from a CO2 cartridge?

eyefloater
01-27-06, 09:39 AM
It depends on the size of the cartridge. I think the 16g ones go up to around 130psi.
