Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - So I'm riding home from work...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. at about 2:30 AM when some ********** throws what appears to be an empty bottle of Corona out of his window at me. It was an empty street, no one else, just me. I don't say anything, don't shout, just pedal as hard as I can. Two lights later I catch up to him. I tip-tap my way toward his car, where he is unsuspectingly chatting an giggling with whom I assume was his girlfriend. I shout "hey *******, what are you, some kinda tough guy?" Corny, but the first words that came to mind. I open his car door, grab him by his collar and pull him toward me, then punch him twice in the mouth. Rather than assume the beating, I clip in and ride away.
I'm not at all a violent guy, but I was raised not to take **** from anybody. At first I felt guilty for what I'd done, but that wore off rather quickly. Was I wrong in reacting the way I did? Have any of you had violent encounters? Also... what are your fav. messenger bags? :D
He probably got off easy if he was drinking corona and driving and thats all that happened. Good show! Are you related to Chuck Norris?

Actually he was in the psgr side. And to answer your question, no, but I still harbor dreams of being part of the Delta Force.

Yes, you were in the wrong. I understand the desire to get even, but at the point you battered him, he was not a danger to you. Yelling at him would have been no issue, but physically touching him was wrong.

^^^ Did you ever get hit with a bottle or anything thrown from a car ?
The asshat made a decision to do something that could have
affected the OP adversly for the rest of his life. I wont comment further except
to say I think its great there will be one less A**h*** having this type
of 'fun' at someone elses expense.

My mother's parents are Sicilian.
As for what Sentinel wrote, it sounds right in principle, but then I try to picture myself sitting in a car and slinging a GLASS bottle at some guy on a bike for no reason. I would never have the audacity to...suffice to say, the more I think about it, the more he had it comin'.

Wow !
Glad you taught that turd a lesson.
I think he'll always remember that time when some guy one a bike beat his a$$ when he threw a bottle out the window... he'll NEVER do it again ... or at least if he does, he'll look 3 times each way first !!!!!

I'm on OP's side. Things like flying bottles coupled with the speed of the car it was thrown from make for potential handicappers. I wouldn't have stopped at two punches, by I respect the restraint that was shown.

Your act diminishes us all...you should have kicked him in the nuts while you were at it. :D

Actually, it would almost definitely be either S. aureus, S. pyogenes, or E. corrodens.
But yeah those are never good in the hand.
And FWIW I think a couple swift ones in the face were well in order.

err? its not so much the words that are used its the tone of voice used when said.... now im not a homophobe but i have never heard that phrase used in a playful compliment-y connotation
haha intense. i probably would have just pulled him out of the car and grabbed him and yelled in his face "IT IS NOT OK TO THROW BOTTLES AT PEOPLE!" and then rode off, but hey. whatever works for you

One would argue that trowing a bottle of bear at someone is an act or recklessness and could of very well hurt this guy.. I can't pounch very good and Im not related to Rocky but I would of probably have had the urge to do what you did... well.. pretending that I ever could.. OK maybe I would of well.. thow my bike at him! nah... My bike is too good for him!
a bottle of bears could seriously **** someone up! especially grizzlies!

I wouldn't have done it that way.
Me? I would have knocked on his window, he'd roll it down probably saying something lame .. then I'd just intimidate the living **** out of him untill he started crying in front of his "significant" other. Then back hand him.. crawl across him and give his girl a sloppy ass kiss (pending she isnt a cow). He'd be scarred for life.

It's not often that I actually laugh out loud reading these forums, but that whole post was ****ing gold. When I read the above quoted sentence the first thought in my head was:

Justice and the law are two separate things. The OP's wrong legally, but he did dish out some justice which is what really counts.

I still applaud your performance good sir.

That's what your U-lock sitting in your back pocket is for, duh.
sometimes violence is the only thing that will make people listen to you.. good job dude. that guy will have more respect for cyclists know that being in a car wont keep him from getting his teeth knocked out.

some people understand talking. some people only speak the language of brute force.
the kind of people that throw bottles at people on bikes only understand force.
"excuse me sir you tryed to kill me for fun and i think thats wrong"
probably wouldnt do much.

I sure hope most of you are joking.
i think more violence by cyclists is a good thing. people don't go starting **** with dudes on motorcycles. drivers need to fear us.

01-27-06, 10:45 PM
i don't know what to think. most of us abhor violence, but most of us recognize the need to fight back when attacked, and then there's the PR consideration. i dunno....
sentinel
01-28-06, 03:12 AM
There's a big difference between fighting back and being the aggressor. When the idiot throws the bottle and leaves, he is no longer the aggressor. He is still wrong and should be punished, but by the legal system and not you when you ride up after he has driven off. If he were to get out of the car and threaten you, fight back with all means necessary, but riding up and pulling him from the car and beating him is not the answer.

Well done, if he was obviously trying to hit you with a glass bottle. Imagine when his friends ask him how his mouth got busted up... "Err, a bicyclist pulled me out of my car in the presence of my girlfriend for throwing a bottle at him..."
Still, the traditional method sound better to me: shout in the "who are you to throw bottles at people" bit through the window, then U-lock the windscreen/kick the mirror off and ride away.
