marqueemoon...rain does suck...i always just count it as the price i pay to live in a town i love as much as portland, so it stops bothering me after a bit.

wow, don't move here. it was sunny for about 20 minutes earlier and i thought that kicked ass. if i'm lucky, it might get that way again.

I totally agree. I love my town. Rain is just part of the package.
I moved here from the midwest and compared to the hot, humid summers and bitterly cold winters a little rain is nothing. Big props to all of you 3 pairs of gloves wearin' studded tire types out there.

yeah i know, but the thing is.. i've never been to one. and i was hoping to hear some 411 from here about it.. so i can actually know where to go and find these ppl.
last critical mass, tons of ppl posted stuff on here about it. so i'd assume that at least 30% of the participants are from BF.

what, i dont look like mike tyson?
haha yeah...critical mass was uhh interesting tonight. i pretty much finished off the new tire i just put on last weekend with all the hills and lombard stuff.
it was definitely not fixed friendly tonight with all those steep grade downhills up in russian hill.
and the pricks throwing the firecrackers into the crowd early on were pretty lame.
CM gets a big 'mehh' from me.

Nah.. SF critical mass was great. The ride sucked, but it usually sucks. You take off at 3mph down market while the activist types yell slogans and the agro types mix it up with drivers. There is always some naked guy, some kids doing a documentary, and Gino pumping the 80s hit. Invariably some yuppie lays down his USPS trek on the tracks and some out of towner eats it on the slotted grates. Later on you get to watch kids on $2k brakeless track bikes walk up and down russian hill. I think some brakeless rider actually lost it last night and nailed and trashed someone else's bike. CM always delivers spectacle/drama. Go at it like NASCAR: get drunk, heckle, and keep an eye out for the crashes.

yea last time i rode it i was one of the crashes. hence the comment about my right arm.. stupid stoned ass hippie on a mountain bike cut me off going down haight, snapped my arm in half. never riding cm again.

that would be my dumb ass:) After being successful with Lombard turns, I thought for sure I could tackle the next hill. Guess that hill had chuck norris on its side. Luckily, neither of us got hurt:) I ****ed up his back tire (not trashed the bike) and I gladly paid for a new back wheel.
So howz that for a polite crasher. eh?
as foolish as my attempt was, I am still riding the feelin of being a kid and riding down a steep hill on a bike/skateboard/roller skates/tire throwing caution to the wind. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Good on you for being cool about the wheel. Taking 20% hills brakeless in the middle of a CM pack is not so fun. Not as much space to throw the bike sideways and no place to go if you pick up too much speed.
I don't know if CM would take em, but the neighborhood does have much worse hills. filbert is 32% grade going down from hyde. Anyone ever try a short skid contest to see who could take a hill and stop shortest? I guess there would have to be certain minimum time to cover filbert between hyde and leavenworth and whoever stops shortest after crossing leavenworth wins. I would certainly loose and possibly hurt myself, but it would be interesting to watch those who could pull it off.
