today i went out to ride by dads bike (mine is temporaroy out of comission) but i couldnt pedal. its as if the BB is frozen. It took an enormus amount of force just to get the cranks to move half way around. there is also a loud squeeking/almost grinding(like gears on a car aren't meshing nicely) while making the revolution. the last time the bike was ridden its was on trails but all mud was washed off it as soon as i returned home that day(it was also 50 out). what could be causing the cranks to not turn?

i konw that the cassette and everthing back there is fine. i took the whel of and turned the cogs by hadn and there was no resistance.bb

When you washed off the mud, I expect you forced some of it plus water into the bottom bracket shell. I further suspect that once there, they rusted the bearings into a solid mass. Better take the bb apart and plan on all new components.
