Chicago critical mass was messy too tonight! First time ever. I am not sure quite what happened, we stopped to memorialize the location where a critical mass chopper got hit and killed, and it took a long time so we were blocking traffic for a long time. Cops rolled up and tried to move us aside, people were chanting "whose streets? our streets!" That is when a paddy wagon rolled up and the copse told us to leave or be arrested. I just wanted to move along, I think we got hijacked into not moving, or that some cops cut off the front of the ride somehow.
Definitely not as bad as NYC as I've heard, but the CPD is usually exceptionally friendly to CM, why the confrontation now? But i am too drunk too give the story justice...can someone else from chi comment?

who's that? looks like either an exceptionally ****ty hair metal band or an exceptionally rad thrash band, 80s style.
well...aside from the leather pants. but the bandanas everywhere, and is that a jackson? i'm going to pretend it is, though it's probably a strat.
Do the cops in NYC roll on Segways like they do in Chicago?

hahah a paradise of hilarity. I bust up every time I see a cop on a segway. It's really really funny.
Segways are only downtown though, afaik. Does the CPD have an exceptional ammount of money or what? they have cannondale MTB's, segways, horses, ATV's, cars, paddy wagons, helicopters, god knows what else.
EDIT: CPD does not have mopeds however, mopeds are definitely among the least macho vehicles in existance.

oh. i'm not really a van halen fan. i hate both singers, think eddie is a good guitarist, but so much of a showoff he bores me. which is weird, because i like yngwie, and that guy is one of the biggest showoffs ever.

I saw one, once. a year ago or so. Told him that I'd heard they were illegal to ride on the streets, and he said that they were testing them out with the PD. I guess it never took hold.

OK Buddy, so I can understand that you might not be down with Diamond Dave (!?).
However, Edward Van Halen is a bonafide Guitar God! I am assuming you are at least ten years younger than my 34, but damn son! Please give a listen to any original Van Halen album. Can you say revolutionary? This guy inspired an entire generation of rock guitarists.
Original Van Halen is/was the only hair band that matters.

1984 was the first album I had that my mother didn't approve of (an angel,...with cigarettes....why do you need that...tsk tsk..lots of dubious looks wondering if her little angel is smoking or on the drugs) And it was the first album I'd ever purchased where I thought every song rocked. I thought that couldn't happen before, you bought an album for the song you liked and much of the rest turned out to be crap. I shortly thereafter bought the older Van Halen albums.
Before VH I listened to whatever the hell my older sister listened to cause I'd not found a sound. VH rescued me from Micheal Jackson, Yes, .38 Special, Duran Duran and similar whatever that she listened to, for that I'll forever be indebted to them.

you're right about my age (in fact, a couple of years younger--22), but i'd never deny eddie van halen's status as guitar god or anything...he just doesn't do it for me. you know...doesn't move me.

That's pretty much what I saw. When the cops started to sort of surround us, that guy in the orange jump suit started chanting. I took off when I saw the paddy wagon. I stopped on a sidewalk a few blocks down to wait for my friend, and cops are yelling, "keep on moving!" and made me move. They were really aggressive and pissed off this time, not like the other CMs I've been to. I don't even feel like we were blocking the streets for that long before they showed up.

Nice, can't mess with Hosoi or DD! Dave is working on the radio in NY now and he rides to and from work on his bike! I can't wait to bump into him. Hell Yeah.

Hosoi was my all-time favorite when I was a kid. I used to cut out the Hosoi decks from the ads in the back of Transworld, glue them to cardboard, attach wheels I had ripped out of dinky cars and make ghetto fingerboards.
