Triathlon - Hows everyones training going??? Post your past week

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Lets here it everyone, the new year is here and duathlon season is fast approaching. I know I put off serious training for a while but I'm on my third week of what I would consider legit stuff.
This week after tomorrow I will have 38 miles of running, 3 hours on the trainer and 2 swim sessions of about a mile each.
Next week the goal is 45 miles of running, 3.5 hours on the trainer and 3 swim sessions. With a long run of 13 miles, a long ride of 1.5 hours and a long swim of over 2000 yards.
For me the biggest thing is getting my running going, as a former runner it is hard to get motivated for something I used to do for 90-100 miles a week but burned myself out on, even if I am only going 5 or 6 miles. After I get my butt out running, the swimming and biking seems necessary. Most of all my training is getting fun again!

After today I am at 17 mi run 2 swims totaling 4200 meters (with lots of drills) and 3 HR trainer and been loving it. I did just get a recall notice on my trainer (performance travel trac fluid)so that will probably take a major hit while I get that resolved.
In December, I did 4, 8 hour weeks on the trainer(total 32 hrs/month), a few rides outside, 2 2500m swims a week and 0 running. December 25th I got a cold, so I took a few days off. December 28th it turned into a chest cold until January 23rd. I didn't do a thing between Dec. 25th and January 24th except play indoor soccer once a week. It was terrible.
Onto the quesiton, my training really suffered, so I am back to square 1. This week I have ridden 1 hour over two training sessions, swam once and ran none. I just hope this cold doesn't come back, so I am staying inside until July. :D

was aiming for a nice 6 mile run today, but just woke up with a sore throat and it's raining :(

Hi all! I recently joined this site, I mainly do duathlons, trying hard to stay motivated under this snowy NH, on my trainer everyday, doing also brick work outs.. I started swimming, got a bad shoulder but if it holds up.. Ill do my first tri this year..
Nice to meet you all!:)

Wow, you folks are impressive. I suspect the rest of us are just too unwilling to post our dismal accomplishments, so I'll be the first...
Last week, about 4000 yards swimming. A bit on the eliptical trainer, and physical therapy twice.
Once I get the knee a bit stronger, I'm hoping to start running again, but it will be a very slow ramp up. Same goes for spin classes. I don't have a trainer, and I haven't been out riding in the rain...
Go get 'em you crazy mothers... somebody's gotta do it. :)
I can't hardly believe I'm training this much, as of last year at this time I was signing up for a half marathon but I didn't run over 20 miles a week until I did it and still went out at Sub 6 minute pace and held for 1:17, talk about pain the week after that.

It's peak XC ski race season for me right now, so the weeks in January have looked like this:
1 race / week (anywhere from 5-30K)
1 easy long ski (30 - 40K in 3hrs)
1 easy long run (currently 8-10 miles @ 10 min per mile)
1 day off
1 indoor treadmill pace run
2 days on road bike or indoor bike for an hour, followed by 30 min. of weights
Starting in February I add 1 hr swim workouts on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Since my first tri is April 8, skiing will drop off no later than mid-March.

It's still my prep period but since I'm aiming for a 1/2 IM the hours are ramping up quickly. Last year was my first year of doing TRIs and it went pretty decent. I'm going to do all that is possible to take a shot at going sub 5 in the 1/2 IM. It's lofty and I'll need the perfect race splits to do it.
This week
2400 swim (lots of 100's at T-pace)
1 easy run with stride outs
2 strength sessions (very important right now)
2 rides (total 60 miles...done indoors: spin class and indivual trainer ride)
1 60 min run easy
8 hours

I'm just getting started on tri training. It's hard when there's so much snow on the ground and I have to do everything indoors. Also, I got a new puppy in November and he takes up a BUNCH of my time. But I figure that snowshoeing with the dog counts the same as running in the soft sand at the beach.

I just started my swimming yesterday, Ive never entered a Tri before but plan to join this years local tinman event and see how it goes, I've got the biking and running history, but never did a duatlon either so I'm looking foward to new challenges this year.

My first event is an olympic in July.
this week I am spending:
45 minutes on the trainer * 3
35 minutes running * 3
I am wearing my heart rate monitor and aiming for 150 bpm for the duration of my excercise.
The swim seems easy at this point. Probably will not start working on that until march/april.
So far a typical week has been:
3 x 90 minutes on the bike (trainer  )
3 x 6 miles run (on the treadmill  )
3 x 45-50 minutes swim
It helps to have a SwimEx at home :)

What's a SwimEx?

The last week.
1x swim- 1850m though inbetween some of the 50s, were either 20 push ups, or 40 situps, I totaled 90 pushups, and 180 situps.
1x 1hr spin
3x 1hr weights
1x 1hr running
I am still having some troubles with my knee, so I am taking it easy, race season doesnt start for a few months yet, so I have time.
What's a SwimEx?
It's basically just a swimming version of a treadmill. Makes getting swim workouts in a lot easier than trying to get over to the Y.

I'm slacking on everything but the running, but my Performance trainer is under recall, if only I had an excuse for swimming now.
