Bicycle Mechanics - DA 7800 Shifter Question

As some of you know, I just upgraded from an Ultegra 6500 (9 spd) kit to a DA 7800 (10 spd) kit on my bike. It shifts like a dream, and everything is working perfectly. But I have a question about the right shifter. On the 6500, when I'd get to the smallest sprocket, the shifter would not ratchet further - it would stop at that point. On the 7800, it will keep ratcheting. It doesn't move the RD any further, but it makes it hard to know, without glancing back, if I'm actually in the smallest cog.

Is this normal for this shifter?

Before you tightened the RD cable bolt, did you ratchet the right shifter until it did not ratchet any more, and then take the slack out of the cable and tighten the bolt?

Hi, and thanks for the response. If I understand the question, then yes, I did that as the last step prior to adjusting the derailleur limit screws. I shifted it to the smallest cog, pulled the slack out of the cable and then tightened the pinch bolt.

It doesn't seem to affect shifting at all. It shifts like a dream.

Well if everything works fine, I'd say that is good but what you're describing doesn't sound normal. I hope someone else has an opinion.

I think your DA gear has a 3-year warranty, so at least if it stops working because of this it should be covered. You might want to ask about that now.
