...know its been covered, didn't find my answer. i know what the european is, could someone clarify the american vs mid BB for me? are they the same?

as i am looking at products online, i do not see them explicitly stating "mid" in general which leads me to believe they're the same??

i am leaning towards Euro anyhow. it seemed to be a personal preference in the old posts.

Mis uses an R12 size berring, which you could find in an amercian size berring if you just push it out from the surrounding cup. I can't think of a better way to explain it. It's bigger than Euro, and the berrings just click into your frame w/o using a press or anything, no threads. Spanish berring are smaller than Mid, but bigger than Euro. I wouldn't suggest Spanish, the berrings would be to weak I think. Euro is smaller, but it uses 4 berrings instead of just 1 on both sides like spanish. I don't think I would trust it.

No, Mid berrings are the same size as American, MINUS the cup it sits in. So American is WAY bigger, and i'm not sure if you can use Americna berrings(minus the cup)in a mid BB frame, I just know that that's the same size. You would still have to buy a Mid BB kit if you wanted ot get a Mid BB frmae. Unless your new frame coems with mid berrings.

No. That is incorrect. If you use cranks with a 19mm (3/4") spindle (Profile Race, Odyssey 41 Thermal, etc), the standard American-sized bearing (R12) and spacer will fit into the Mid. However, if you use a crank with a 22mm spindle (Primo, Odyssey Wombolt, etc), you need to get special bearings with the same outer diameter as the R12, but with a spindle hole of a larger size. Most mailorders will have these bearings for sale, with the proper spacer.

i read one of your past posts and i thought you were an advocate of Euro?? the frame i am buying has a choice of Mid or Euro. i was going to get euro...but am not sure.

so if i get the Mid frame, i can use either the 19mm or 22mm as long as the bearing OD is appropriate?

Yes. When you order the cranks, just tell them that you're going to be using a frame with a Mid BB, so you need the appropriate bearings and spacers.
