Training & Nutrition - Food trackers, this is cool, but is it worth it?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm a gadget person and found this:

Apparently you scan the UPC code on packages of food (it even knows a lot of restaurant foods) and the nutritional data is then tracked for you.

The website with more explanation of what this can do is here: http://www.trainingpeaks.com/caloriescanner/

Is this a valuable tool or just a gadget thingie that doesn't have practical use? I suppose it's like a cool electronic diary, but what can I use it for other than easily logging what I eat?

It looks neat but I think I need an angel (or demon?) on my shoulder telling me if it's a waste of money (it's $150) or not.

Thanks.

$150 gets you the tracker and a month subscription. Depending on the plan you choose, you could end up spending over $200. Since it reads UPC codes, you're out of luck when you go out to eat. Unless you need to micromanage your food intake, it sounds like a cool gadget but not necessarily useful.

I guess I needed someone else to tell me the same thing. Thank for saving me $$! Now... maybe I can buy a new jersey instead? ;)
