So for single-track fun in the coming off-season what's the fattest tubular cross tire out there? Anything fatter than the UCI legal 35?
Okay, failing that I use my back up clinchers... How fat a tire can I get onto a standard road rim. I've got no trouble with the 32s I've been running, but want something really huge like a 29'r for just playing around.

I think that the biggest limiter would be the tire clearance of your frame, not the rim. I'd be surprised if you could fit more than a 38 or so.
Not a cyclocross bike but I am using Conti Vapors mounted on Mavic MA3s on this bike.. I think the Contis are rated at 1.8.

Just measured, yep, that's about all I get in back. In front I can throw just about anything in there including a mountain bike wheel. The back is the limiter.
