Umm, no comment. :rolleyes: I will say, though, that I did not produce said emissions. So don't worry, it's safe to ride up Baldy with me. 1955 is welcome to ride up Baldy with me, too, but I guess not at the same time. ;)

Anyone else noticed that the UCI team's females were friendlier than the males? The males say "on your left" or "hello" as they approach and keep on going. At best, they grunt when you reply "hello". The females say "on your left" and return a "hello". One of them also added "great job, keep it up" (yeah right... I was out of the saddle while she glided by seated) at about the 3500 foot level, at which point I retorted "yeah, for another 100 miles or so".

You're definitely right about that. As I was grinding my 39/26 at what seemed like 30 RPM and 6 MPH :eek: at about mid-way up the climb the first of the few UCI female riders yelled out "you're doing good!!" as she blew by me at twice my speed....:):):).....That smile on my face only lasted about 5 seconds as I knew I still had 3,000 more feet of climbing to reach the observatory... :p

Yep, big mistake putting them on Imageshack and having them load all at once. Servers hate that.

Thanks for the stats. I was suprised to see how close our elevations gains were between my altimeter (barometric pressure) and your GPS. I think there's only a 40' difference. I'd like to think that the 110 mile distance is the accurate one :D . I think Pico's cpu was closer to 110 as well. Doesn't really matter, nice job on the ride, especially on that last hour, where we motored it home :)

As far as the pics go, they were loading quickly yesterday, but today they're really lagging. Later this afternoon I'll break them up into several posts, or put up as thumbnails or something.

No, believe me, you missed out. Yes, trying to rush back to beat the sunset was rough, but the first half was very enjoyable. Great views and fun climbing. :D I believe all of us who didn't finish the ride had a wonderful time and don't regret taking on the ride.

OC, I'm definitely going for Breathless Agony, so I expect to do more hilly centuries. But not too many centuries for me, at least not this year... gotta keep your 2005 Baldy times in my crosshairs to try to convince myself I deserve a new bike. :D Yes, I'm still really far back, but you're a marked man. :)

OC, I'm amazed at the accuracy of your altimeter. I wouldn't expect two GPS units to be within 0.4% of each other, with all of the up and down in that ride. After seeing a spreadsheet comparing the results from half a dozen or so computers I thought the best you could hope for with altimeters is +/-20%.

Me too, except mine isn't GPS driven, it's barometric pressure, which makes it even more suprising how close they were. How did your wife like the Pie? When I told my wife at the end of the ride, that I was bringing back a delicious pie, she scoffed at me and told me to get home :eek: . When I got home and warmed up a slice of Mountain Berry Pie, I wasn't hearing any complaints then :D . I did get tortured with a full day of Disneyland yesterday, I think I ate my way through the park :p

Don't underestimate yourself. There are many times that I just want to quit and take the bus home, but I keep pushing.

Just think to yourself that giving up is not an option and that you must continue moving!!

Main reason that I did not want to go was because I did not feel like driving 5 hours and I had to take care of some reports. I would be interested if it was close by though...Tour de LA :D

I'm pretty sure this might crush me though :), 10000ft climb sounds pretty intense...

Someone set something like this around me and I will be interested in doing it.

Hey 'nother,
I'm not sure when we'll do the "Pie" ride again, but I'm already thinking of the next hilly one I'd like to do. Last July, Extort and I did a Mt Baldy Century, we started in Anaheim Hills and did a big loop that included GMR up to Mt Baldy. If you go all the way up to the ski lifts, it's around 110 miles with 10k+ feet of climbing. Last July it was miserably hot (104 F at 4500'), so we bailed out with about 3 miles before the ski lifts. I'd like to do this one in spring or early summer. The scenery and terrain aren't quite up to par with the "Pie" ride, but it's still some great riding. I also wouldn't mind doing the "Pie" ride again, and actually do the climb into Julian as well (that would make for about 125 miles and ~12,000'). If we ever post a ride up here that you want to come down for, let me know, we've got extra space. I'd love to get in some good EC training, especially by the time summer comes around. If I didn't have to save my big "away" weekend for EC, I'd love to go and do one of Terry Morse's training camps.

Sounds like a lot of fun, thanks for sharing.

They're Vrestein Fortezza's, and yes they reflect very well :)
