Hi all,

What a day! Was flying along nicely riding through Hidden Valley and got a flat on the back tire. No big deal. Changed it out and continued onward. Ten minutes later, I heard a bang! and a huge amount of noise. I had picked up a giant nail in the same tire! I notice that the rim tape is also punctured through, 'cause the nail was long. Do I need to replace that tape?

Thanks,

Sheldon

As long as the damage to the rim tape is completely between two spoke holes you'll be OK. If the hole exposes even the tiniest amount of spoke hole, replace it. Otherwise when you pump your tire up to 100psi the inner tube will extrude into the spoke hole and puncture itself.
