Having been into quality audio equipment for many a moon, my problem with many of the car sub systems is that they only seem to "woof" out one note and a hugely distorted one at that. Oh, and I hate the way they punch their sound into your car or house when they're nearby.

That's hilarious.

A $2500 stereo in a $500 car. That's pretty much the same story as with one of my neighbors. The other day, I complimented him on his *****in' system -- but I don't think he heard me....

That dude's proud of his sub. And lots of people would be impressed. These are the same people that run dubs on '88 civics and install cheap fart cans for mufflers. Or worse, have plastic "rims" and diy tint jobs.

There are some really powerful small speakers available. As an example, the sub-woofer attached to my computer is about 4"X6"X4". So how long before they'll be able to make a really loud boom box that's small enough and light enough to fit on a bike?

This came up when I googled. I was looking for another picture of a bicycle with a boombox a while back.

Im not trying to start an argument but im guessing you havent in been in many cars recently where the owner has actually installed a half decent system. There is alot more to it than just sticing a sub in the boot.

I find it very funny that it appears the only Japanese import I ever hear about on this forum is the Honda Civic. I can't recall the last time I saw one here in Japan. What's the go, is there some kind of craze over there in the USA?

I'm reminded of that scene from the movie Singles when Matt Dillon's character shows Bridget Fonda's character the stereo he just installed in her car. After cranking up the volume, he blows out all the windows.

The problem with car stereo is most jokers out there think that because they have "subs" they need to blast everything to oblivian with them. NO!

Subs do not need to be loud for effect, I have two 12's with ok amps but I don't (rarely) blast them, but keep them at a reasonable level (at least to my ears) most of the time... tell that to the elderly people on the street... they think over 10 dB is too loud

It is those morons who get stupid laws passed like "can not hear stereo within 15 feet with windows opened" Bul****!

Sorry, my verbage is not to lady like :p

I despise the current state of car audio.

Too many years of morons giving advice to the unkowledged, eventually mis-educating people into become ing the new morons mis-educating others.

If I hear one more idiot tell me that an 18" is capable of clarity of any level in a car environment without having smaller cubs to take over the 50-85hz area...I swear I'm going to make the sucker cry harder. It's just not possible to move something that massive fast enough to cover the expected frequency range.

I've built great systems with just a single 8" woofer....for a large sedan like a bonneville, a single 12" with 250w. Doesn't take much power to get good sound. My forte in installation is stealth installs...I do my best to make a system practically invisible, aside from the deck.

Pretty much these fools aren't after sound quality, they are just looking for other people to hear their system.

That makes having a Lupine Edison 10 look pretty reasonable. Come to think of it, that almost makes having a Supernova P-99D look reasonable. :)

I dislike them with a vengeance.

Speaking of bikes, I saw a guy riding around our local park holding a huge boombox on batteries, just going around and around and around and arou...........

I despise them too. Every time I hear a loud system booming down the street while I'm in my back room with the TV on I just think about how the kid won't be able to hear when he's thirty and I smile. I realize that's bad, but I can't help it.

Bah, I've heard BOSE autosound system's woofers exhibit break-up playing Michael jackson of all things....not even rap for pete's sake.

Pretty much BOSE is a blend of marketing and ease of use....nothing to do with sound quality, period....even their headphones.

Exactly why I had my Bose speakers upgraded to martin logan Prodigy's and my horn upgraded to avantgarde Uno's.

When I'm laying on the horn in frustration in traffic, only the best horn sound will do. Because when I'm angry, I need to accurately convey my feelings of "GET THE **** OFF THE ROAD, *************!"
"************" Loud and clear. Not "*************", or "***********", or "*************" but "*************!!!!"

I think his point was against the cars that have crappy but loud sound systems, not the badass and loud (Frankly, if I can hear all the notes, it's loud enough for me, but I admit it can be fun to thump on occasion). Watching that car shake, can you imagine how much rattling noise there must be?
