A friend of mine was bombing down a hill recently, and he spotted some chickens running loose by the side of the road. As he got even with them, one chicken ran out and broad-sided him, hitting the chain ring. He managed to stay upright, but the chicken was killed instantly. You never know what's going to come out of nowhere on a fast downhill!

- Why was the chicken crossing the road?
- To get suicide with a bike chain.

*Sorry*

It's a well-known fact that chickens love to chase bicycles. They just don't realize what will happen when they catch one.

Are Peacocks of the same disposition as chickens.

On one of my favorite loops I pass an estate with these pesky birds wandering all over the place , if there is one near me as i pass it will take a flying leap at my bike.

I am always hearing things running along in the leaves etc. besides the road, mostly squirrels and small birds. Today I hear something running and all the sudden a big yellow cat comes charging out of the fallen leaves just in front of the bike!!It scared the crap outa me. I didn't want to wreck the bike or hit someone's pet but I missed it by this (-) much!

Nothing has come all that close to me, but I have encountered wild turkey and deer. I've also seen oppossum and skunk, but they'd count better in the road kill thread. The deer have been impressive. I guess daylight and the absence of a headlight have helped me avoid a painful crash. I think once I saw a grey fox, but both of us were moving fast. Could have been a yappy little dog. Nothing has run for the bike.

Forgot to say that the rustling in the brush next to the road is sometimes unnerving, especially when it sounds like it comes from a large, unseen animal.

So, I just got to know.... was there a chicken tied to the handle bars for the rest of the ride?

Round here in Texas I have seen my share of 50 model chevy pickup 4x4's jacked up 10 feet in the air with a fresh buck for a hood ornament. I even watched a GeoMetro go down the road once with a sofa strapped to the front.

In serious, kudos should be given for keeping balance after having something hit the bike that way and that low.

Where I ride here near my home in MN, I have encountered numerous deer, along with the usual assortment of the various family pets in the area. As I had mentioned in another thread, while up north at our cabin in WI I see the occasional black bear...

Never actually hit anything on a bike.
Once, though, I was riding in a forest and saw a skunk shuffling some leaves in his hole. I decided to stop and come closer to observe this cute animal. I immediately changed my opinion about the 'cute' part when it turned around, rose his tail and started approaching me.:o

Only hit two things this year, A chihuahua, and a canadian Goose.

Did you get to keep the chicken?

I know the last thing that went through the chicken's head when it hit the bike: its butt.
