View Full Version : Integrated Headset
I really like the idea of an Integrated HS....but CK has me running scared and so do others. Why does this set-up seem sound, tried and true, for dirt bikes but so problematic for bmx??
any comments?
my only guess is that the head tube on dirt bikes is thicker????

Do you want to know why CK doesn't like integrated headsets? Because they work better than his headsets and they cost a fraction of the price.

so what do you think?? i definitely like the Solid traditional with roller bearings. however, if i knew i wouldn't have problems with the Integrated HS, i kind of like them. when i say problems, i mean more like head tube problems. i don't care so much if i had to replace the actual bearing every once in awhile.
have you seen people have problems?? let me know, i will have to commit eventually and i would hate to have regrets
i wish the integrated had roller bearings too...
thanks
gosh, i just read another bmx forum with problematic integrated set-ups. i don't want to risk damaging my frame!
i think i will get the Solid...
beerman, do you think i should buy two Solid HSs to have one extra for either parts or as a replacement in the future? i remember you making it sound like they won't be around forever.
thanks

1) I rode a Solid for a year and half without any problems. I can't even imagine breaking it, either; it's heat-treated 4140 chromoly.
2) I've had an integrated headset for about eight months now, and I haven't had any problems with it, either.
3) I had a Pig for over half-a-decade without any problems.
4) The only headset I've ever actually broken was the King, which cost more than double the cost of the Solid, and three times the cost of my Pig and FSA Impact, and it only lasted for a month or two.

I havent had an integrated headset, but I did break a sealed pig top cup in two. It was weird... it broke into two seperate rings.
If integrated headsets were ruining frames, they wouldnt make inetrgated specific frames. its like making a waterbottle that breaks when you put water in it, just dont make sense, or whipen' before ya poop, dont make sense.
