I have an old Trek 400, but I would like larger tires. So, I was wondering if I could transfer all of the components to a Nashbar "X" Aluminum frame (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=130&subcategory=1176&brand=&sku=15767&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=). What are some of the problems I might run into?

Some,
The parts that won't work:
Rear hub on an 80's Trek 400 6 or 7 speed is 126mm that is 135mm
You probably have down-tube shifters - the nashbar won't have mounts
If you want more clearance on you front wheel you will need a new fork, the new forks use a threadless headset and stem, vs. the threaded components you have. You will need a new headset and stem.
Your caliper brakes won't work.
Measure your seatpost. Its likely you will need a new seat post also.
So basically you can reuse your crank, saddle, handlebars, brake levers, derailers and BB.
You will need to replace wheels, brakes, fork, headset, stem, shifters, and perhaps the seattube.
For a complete geared bike it doesn't look like a good investment.
