Folding Bikes - Power Grips on folding pedals (Downtube)?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Is it possible to put Power Grips like those pictured here (http://www.ekosport.com/pg_benefits.shtml) onto folding pedals, like those on the Downtube?

Or is it possible to replace the folding pedals with the Power Grip sport pedal kit?

I have clipless pedals on my other bikes, but appreciate being able to ride a bike without special shoes. I used to ride with clips w/o straps, so the Power Grips seemed like a good solution.

Try it first, but if the strap is flexible, I don't see why it would not work.

I mounted them on my Downtube FS. I drilled and tapped the holes in the pedal and used the included 5mm screws except for the back which took a slightly longer 5mm screw.. They've been working great and have PowerGrips on all the bikes I ride regularly. The pedals on the Downtube are standard thread, so you have many choices of pedals to choose from.

Great V1nceroonie... That's without my arse in the saddle! .. tension is awesome when be ridden... never too tight and never dropped a chain on this bike regardless of terrain ... this bike is so cool, I'm considering a Rohloff for it... haha

af had a thread awhile back where he found metal folding pedals he mounted powergrips to. There's no reason why you can't change the pedals out on the bike.

Would you happen to have a link to that thread, where those folding metal pedals could be found?

Thx!

Thanks, Bruce, for posting those pictures, to give me some idea. I'm not the most mechanical person in the world, so I'm probably going to need some help with this. I'm okay with a screwdriver, but I can't see myself drilling anything.

I purchased power grips and mounted them on my stock Downtube folding pedals (resin pedals by VP). However one of the pedal's bearings failed and I ended up replacing the pedals with the MKS folding FD-6 pedals. These pedals have the reflectors and the holes in the pedal edges to accomodate the reflectors. To mount the power grips on these pedals, I used the same trick that was explained in another post for mounting them on the metal suntour folding pedals-- I put them on backwards. The mounting bar piece was placed on the rear edge of the pedal and the single screw mount was placed on the front edge of the pedal. I used the holes for the reflectors for the mounting but did not remove the reflectors. I drilled out the stubs on the reflectors while they were still on the pedals using a drill press -- both holes on the rear edge and the "outside" hole on the front edge. For the front edge hole I had to file down the flare around the hole to make room for a nut to fit in the small slot. I also had to bend the metal bracket to closer to a 90 degree angle so it did not hit the pedal crank. Needless to say, they are mounted on my bike now and I'm enjoying being strapped in to the new MKS pedals which, were it not for the power grips would be more slippery than the original VP pedals.

Photo please. I might have to do that operation and I don't exactly follow the prose version.

Here are some photos to go with the prose description above. Note that the reflectors on the pedal edges were left in place-simply drill through them into the already existing holes in the pedals. Hope this helps.
