BMX - Hub, Chain and Driver help

Alright here goes.
I bought a brand new 2006 eastern element about 2 months ago. Within the first week the casette ring fell off this problem continued for a few weeks until the bike shop man found out the problem was that the sprocket and the driver were not running in line. Oh and the chain broke in the first week. This is where the problem really begun.
I now have a cheap half link chain and the bike is running alright but the chain and the driver make really bad bad grinding sounds when i pedal backwards. I now have the chain on really loose and the noise is almost gone but the chains hits the frame and makes a worse noise.
Im considering getting a new back wheelset but that is rather expensive and not what i want to spend my money on if i dont have to. Or should i just get a new chain.

Any help will be appreciated accept from BMX handyman cause i get his opinion everyday

Ok I'll handle this. Buy a new sprocket and a new freewheel. Now you shouldn't have any problems.

alright a quality casette hub costs 300$ AUD and thats not really in my budget so any other suggestions im thinking a new chain will solve the problem. Looks like i may have to solve my problem

new driver, new chain, new sproket....and do it through anyshop except byron bay cycles.get them to fix it aswell cause i aint doin it. dont want to deal with that bike again.

The lock ring that goes on the outside of the sprocket is on backwards.

If you bought the bike with the driver-sprocket not in line, and that caused problems, then the place you bough it form should fix it for free.

44T sprocket, 16T freewheel on a standard, threaded-for-a-freewheel hub will end your problems.

no. the lockring is on the right way.

they did try. and all they could do was cause the lockring to fall off about 5 times that day.the bike has not come with the right sized crank spacers/cones or something. it is now set up better but they have improvised. the bike must have come with the wrong thing or missing something when eastern sent it to the shop.still makes a really bad noise.

what i think is...ship it back to eastern and make them fix it.cause something is seriously wrong.

Try putting it on backwards then, the problem you are describing with the chain "kinking" off the back sprocket is simply cuased by this.

post a picture of the drivetrain from the rear of the bike. sounds like the chainline is off, either the result of a shoddy cassette hub, or a poorly assembled crank, missing spacers.

Is the sprocket inboard or outboard of the rear cog?

hmmm....assuming the rear wheel is in the dropouts straight, looks like the non drive side bb cup isn't in all the way, the rear wheel isn't dished/spaced properly, and that you could use about 2.5mm of spacers between the drive side bb cup and the sprocket. if the wheel isn't in the dropouts straight, even it out and see if that helps the drivetrain alignment problems.

Mate this is Australia. We have consumer protection laws here. Take it back and tell them if they can't make it right, you want your money back, or a replacement. Why are you letting them jerk you around, and asking on the internet for advice? They have to fix it, not you.
