General Cycling Discussion - Joe, I have an idea for a BikeForums.com bike tour

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey, Joe, I was thinking how neat it would be if all of the cool cats on BikeForums.com could go for a bike tour some day.
Obviously, the most practical way for this to happen would be to do it through an electronic virtual journey.
What might be possible is to have a web page called "the BikeForums.com Virtual Bike Tour". Maybe we could all download about five photos of one of our local rides and string them together to make one continuous fantasy tour.
That might be kind of neat. We could have rest areas where the non-shy can have photos of themselves so that we can get to know each others faces and/or bikes.
Joe, since you are a web-wizard and the leader of Team BikeForums, is this something you can work up?

Mike,
As soon as I get my skills up, I'll join something like that!
In fact, I was going to start a thread using a description of my actual commute that I had written for another purpose, but I can't locate a copy of it yet.
Hey, Joe doesn't need to do anything! Just post, and add pictures, right?
Mike, your idea rocks,I hope this can go through. You're a stinkin' genius!!!!

Great idea, lets toss some more ideas around, and get the ball rolling! (Fubar, run!)
Why run when I can bike?

Great Idea Mike. I was actually thinking about the same thing. Honest, I was....
Well, I wasn't necessarily going to suggest a new forum. But since we have members from all over the world, I wanted to see ride pictures.
So if you got ride pictures, post them
Carlos "post'em if ya gottem"
We have regular forum contributors from Australia, Hong Kong, England, Canada, USA, this could be really neat.
We should probably try to come up with a list of creative ideas to make the site interesting and bike specific. For example; photos could have a bike, bike part, bike path, bike lane, or some other bike related thing in order to make it a bike tour.
One thing I would like to see is a SAG wagon zip by now and again just for giggles.
Pete, I do look good don't I?? I'm lovin' the bigger avatar size.

"I am going to be in Spokane, Washington and all over Indiana this summer if there are any roadies that want to get
together for a real ride. "
Ba-Dg-Er,
I've recently moved to Indiana. The shop I'm working at has a Tuesday hill-ride(we are in Southern Indiana near the Hoosier National Forest) and a Thursday tempo ride. Both rides attract a mix of Cat2-4 racers with a few mtbers(like myself) thrown in. There is also a little 162-mile jaunt across the state called RAIN(RideAcrossIN) on July 14th. I plan to be there!
Email if interested....
Bring your camera to have some photos to add to the virtual tour.

I meet this recumbent rider from Maine that placed a small video camera on the long front boom of his bike and with a hand held control switch. He would video his tour for his own little library of trips he went on. I did see one of his trips in Maine and it was just like you were on the bike itself, neat idea I thought.

Mike / BFC Gang, Im thinking of just one long thread, where people could upload / post a few pictures in there area, and then a small description of the area. After we receive a few dozen of these entries, we may be able to link them for a true BikeForums virtual tour.
Kind of on the same subject, what would you think about a sub-forum in the touring area for travelogues, those who are on tours can keep us updated with pictures and a online journal, i love reading travelogues, and im sure some of you enjoy it too.
That sounds good--I could upload little photos of Kansas City area. My digital camera is only 320x240 resolution, primitive, but with some subject matter it does OK for the Web.

Joe,
I think the Touring sub-forum would work well. I am sure there are a lot of people out there who would love to post there pics/stories of their cycling excursions...whether it was to the store or across the world.
I do not have a digital camera or scanner, but, heh, if there was a good place to post them, maybe I would get one.

I like the idea of a Touring sub-thread. I like to read about other peoples' trips, and to see some of your localities would be great.
