Though there is hate on math teachers and recumbants, I think it showcases some of NYC's talent pretty well despite some glaring editing conflicts.

I don't really understand why T-shirts and hoodies with cycling related logos/art on them are any better as "casual cycling clothing" than T-shirts and hoodies with sesame street characters or beer logos...

The pirate hoodie sounds good.. especially with back pockets.

The rest are kinda meh.

I think I'll just lay down some chainrings on a shirt and hit it with a spray can if I want 'casual cycling clothing'.

I agree. I want somebody out there to make stylish technical garb for us kids who ride a lot in crappy weather but don't want to look like we're wearing a garbage bag.

uh, "bikey" is gay. please don't say it. thanks!

Are you just talking to straight people? Can gay people say bikey if they want to?

"cyclist" is straight. please don't say it. Unless you're in the closet, than by all means say "cyclist", and "Jam" as frequently as possible to help maintain the illusion.

No doubt, but there is a difference between technical and casual clothing. Both in price and printablilty (sp?). If you want Gore-Tex, buy gore-tex but it might not be reasonable to expect such performance from ground-level companies that are starting out.

You can buy the knickers from Chrome, and though I they are quite nice, expect to pay at least $130 for them.

I am pretty much a jeans and Pearl Izumi casual clothing rider.

It is good to see clothing companies creating cycling-inspired clothing created by cyclists for cyclists but as for being functional gear they are a bit lacking. Sorry y'all.

That article was stupid. while I like trackstar and king kog, their clothing are just regular t's with different logos, what's so revolutionary about that. I think the author is too fixated on looking cool than actually functional clothing.

cycling specific clothing are expensive, but in many cases, well worth it and it's not like you need an entire wardrobe full of cycling specifci clothing to match every bike you have.

Thanks! It's my bloody face. Maybe I'll silkscreen it onto a t-shirt and sell it at King Kog.

Biomega/Puma Shoes

From BoingBoing.net
"My friend Jens-Martin Skibsted, co-founder of the innovative Danish bicycle firm Biomega, just designed an ingenious new sneaker for Puma. The shoe comes, er, on the heels of Jens-Martin's Biomega/Puma city bike that I posted about last year. The Biomega/Puma shoe, reflective almost in its entirety, has an elastic strap tucked into a heel pocket. You just pull out the strap and wrap it around your pants leg before you start pedaling."

having looked at the "bikey" clothes here (and particularly the shoes), i think thoreau may've been on to somethin' when he said (i think): "beware pursuits that require new clothes". or somethin' along those lines.

"Ah, to show the ‘bike’ love in casual clothing instead of your ‘03 Maipei jersey."

It's Mapei, people. I would rather wear a Mapei jersey than an overpriced hoody any day.

I like the black reflective material (I wish all my clothes were made out of that stuff), but the strap thing is soooooo lame. Just roll 'em up. And it doesn't say anything about clipless compatability, but since the Puma bike has platforms, I doubt it.

The black reflective material isn't actually all that reflective. Sure, if you take a flash picture of it, it'll look bright, but under actual nightime conditions, it's pretty useless.

These did not look like bike cloths, but rather bike themed clothing. Sort of like if I buy a sweatshirt with a shop logo on it.

I am addicted to my smart wool clothing. It just looks like regular t-shirts and preforms its function wonderfully. I suppose its not bike clothing though because there is just a small logo of a stange man wearing some type of hat with lines coming from his head instead of a large image of a bike.

it's oliver sacks eating a 'scandium hamburger.' went to a talk of his last night so i have him on the brain (pun intended - ha!)
<-- dork

But the highlight of the visit was when they served him a scandium hamburger complete with tungsten leaf lettuce and titanium onions (with sodium iodide and cobalt iodide for salt and pepper respectively)... Sacks, you see, wrote in Uncle Tungsten about a dream in which he was eating a scandium hamburger. I think he appreciated the effort to make his dreams, even the weird ones, come true.

If you want stylish and technical buy some rapha or arcteryx. It costs a lot.

Those designs are isht. Give me a patagonia or smartwool base layer and a softshell jacket and I am good to go.

i'm wearing a rivendell superlight merino sleeveless. always.

thrift store "italian style" merino (wool thrift hunters know what i'm talking about) and rivendell tweed jersey when it's cold. add pendleton when it's real cold.

the stuff about wool not stinking, and generally making you sweat less is true. only thing is you have to have ALL wool. once i got my rivendell base layer shirt, i noticed a huge difference.

Stacey is that you...? :P

And inversely Matthew Barney's work is a parody of Joseph Goebbels' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Goebbels) wet dreams (although Barney is too dim-witted to realize it, and his fans too consumed by their own auto-eroticism to see it).

these clothes remind me of people new to skateboarding who will pay for a look, i.e. 20$ for a silkscreen shirt from some company......even though some blank shirt functions just as well. it's paying cash for instant acceptance. i'm a little jaded though and think that the whole art/design/fashion/stencil art/collage/made in illustrator/flyer/everyone's a designer now/ poster art thing is just a wierd offshoot of the surplus of leisure time in the information based economic times of western society...
