I did 30 minutes on a stair climbing machine yesterday at the end of a 2 1/2 hour workout (weights, running, swimming). I guess I overdid it, because my right knee has been throbbing all night and is painful to flex. It was my first time on the stair climber and the first time my knee has hurt since I started riding in September so there must be a connection. Hopefully, I just overdid it. Anyone else have this problem ?

Stair machines and\or actual stairs make my knees hurt more than anything else I can do. I do a stair machine occasionally but go at a high speed\low resistance.

Traditional stair climbers can be hard on the knee's.. Best to try the eliptical machines which has a more fluid motion while still getting a good workout..

Hopefully I can shorten the equation this by subtracting the stairs and adding rest for a doctorless sum.
It kinda feels like I hyperextended my knee. The eliptical is great BTW. Never bothers my knees. It
s annoying to miss a good day for cycling on account of getting too gung-ho inside on a cruddy day !
The penalty does not fit the crime.

((Stairs+Knee pain)-Stairs)+Rest=No trip to Doctor
I hope it works too.

Use ice, it really helps, it's cheap and drug free.

15 minutes on then 15 off or you run the risk of freezing things that shouldn't be frozen.
Stair climbers are evil machines. What are you trying to work on the stair machine?

I agree with your assessment.
I was just tacking on another activity to burn calories and improve stamina for at the end of my workout.
Trying to drop about 15 more lbs and improve my fitness for climbing on my road bike. I figured stair climbers might help, but now I know better. Live and learn I stayed off my knee yesterday and it is much better today, so I am relieved to say the least. The pain was the worst going up and down stairs, so I'm sure the stair climber was the culprit.
