What a joke. This is so unnecessary. There are already thousands in San Diego who depend on the bus system to get about. But I guess they are not upper middle class enough to matter.

I already don't have a car and use the bus, coaster, and bike to get around. They should do a story about me and how much of a "freak", aka carless person, I am.

The goal of the diet is to show residents of San Diego how simple it is to live without owning a car full-time.
Is this a government sponsored program? If so, they need to be sued for false advetising.
I checked google and it is indeed government sponsored. I'm as much of an advocate for mass transit as the next carfree guy, but San Diego MTS still has alot to fix in thier system, plus the whole public image thing. They need to fix thier routes, make it more efficient(right now, they are almost always late, based on posted timelines) and then have a marketing campaign, tax incentive to encourage riding, tax increases/fees to discourage driving in more congested areas before they can claim that it is "simple it is to live without owning a car full-time" unless you're really into it, but most people will almost always choose the most convenient way to get around at a reasonable price("the car").
Sadly, this won't change in the near-future. This is CALIFORNIA, and SAN DIEGO at that, it is supposed to be bicycling heaven here but they somehow neglected the utility and commuting crowd. Where biking for recreation and sport is king. Hey at least, most people are friendly to cyclists. I've been contacting my city council woman and the newly-elected mayor about thier plans on making mass transit efficient in the city(twice), but still no response.

What a joke! I saw this on the news...was expecting a cool profile of cyclists...saw nothing but a flex-car ad. Oh well!

You should hear the comments I get for this being on a big grey ship.
