Foo - Cycling less dangerous than living in general, help me find this statistic

I think I saw a chart or a link to a chart on Bikeforums that listed the number of deaths per 100,000 incidents for a bunch of different activities, swimming, reading, etc. It was neat, because facially, the statistics showed you were less likely to die while cycling than just being alive in general. And, yes, I know this is bogus; many factors, blah, blah blah, cyclists don't ride when they're dying of old age, blah, blah, blah, cyclists die in skydiving accidents too, blah blah blah, etc. However, thought it was funny and wanted to share it with someone. Please Help!

The statistics don't necessarily make cycling seem like a safer activity...

Lets say, we've got a 10 mile commute. In the car, the trip is made at an average of 45mph. On the bike, the trip is made at an average of 17mph.

10mi/17mph=.58x60=35 minute commute

10mi/45mph=.22x60=13 minute commute

Deaths per exposure hour - cycling .26 driving .47

10 mile cycling commute risk @ 17mph .58x.26=.15
10 mile driving commute risk @ 45mph .22x.47=.10

Therefore, cycling on this particular commute is 33% more dangerous than driving.

Yeah, i know, hence my initial disclaimer (blah, blah, blah, etc., in original post). It's just funny, that's all.

Cycling can be pretty dangerous if you get hit by a car, or wreck. Otherwise it is pretty safe.

Because from a set-theory point of view, cycling has to be encompassed within the larger category of living. So if you draw venn diagrams, cycling is a small subset of a larger circle of living...

Damn people, the statistic is a total load of crap, living is just included as a baseline, it probably gives the other stats more credibility, but there is no way you could actually compare it to anything. IT'S JUST FUNNY. I doubt many people who die of old age do so while cycling, etc.
