Well, it's out and it sucks.

Rotten tomatoes dot com gives it a 25%.

Ebert says, "it's like the high school production of something you saw at Steppenwolf...I hadn't realized how thoroughly Sellers and Edwards had colonized my memory. Despite Sean Connery I was able to accept the other James Bonds, just as I understand that different actors might play Hamlet. But there is only one Clouseau, and zat ees zat."I haven't and won't see it. You're right on, there is only one Clouseau. I even like Steve Martin but there's no way he can touch Peter Sellers as Clouseau.

My kids like the commercials and want to see it. They're 7 and 5 if that tells you anything about the level of maturity this movie appeals to. I will wait until it comes on TV a year or two from now.

Why not show them the originals? Those movies (especially the first two) were pretty much perfect.

The biggest concern I had when I saw it was that the movie is going to be lame.

I mean, after "Son of the Pink Panther" the franchise is on shaky ground. That "bike being doored" shtick is pretty well done (as in, not fresh) and if that's one of the "good" jokes they're using to lure people into theatres, I'll have to take a moment and grieve for Peter Sellers.

Wasn't there a dooring at the beginning of "Revenge of the Nerds" when they get out of their car at college?

Well, if it helps any, it only got 1 and a half stars on msn movie reviews... and they are pretty generous reviewers too. ;) No one will see it.

I have no plans on investing any time or cash in this movie. It looks pretty bad, and is, judging by early reviews of both pro critics and citizen critics.

This is certainly not the first time cyclists have been "the butt of the joke". Some years back, there was a anti-drunk driving public service ad, which depicted a guy in a white shirt and tie, huffing and puffing his way along on a bike, by the side of a busy roadway. A facial closeup showed the guy sweating profusely, and a voice over sternly said that this man had lost his driver's license because he had been caught driving drunk. The voice over finished by saying that "look at what he has to do now", or something like that. Thus, instead of cycling being promoted as a healthy, fun means of transportation, it was shown as a means of punishment. I only saw this one twice. Anyone else remember it, from about eight or nine years ago?

Have you seen this? It really bothers me that this is someone's idea of humor.

Based on the previews I've seen, this movie is noone's idea of humor. ;)

Well the family dragged me to see it on Sunday. It wasn't great - it's no where near as good as the originals. Besides the "dooring" of the cyclist, there are several other comedy bits involving cyclists - I think the director has it in for us or something.

Steve Martin seemed fake in the role, like the comedy bits were forced and didn't really come off all that funny. They tried too hard and failed.

I'm going to rent the original Pink Panther and show my family a real funny movie.
