I am looking at getting a HRM monitor, but I don't know which ones are good. I have seen some that use the chest strap and then some that have a place that you monitor by placing your finger on it. I can't imagin the latter being to pratical on a bike so is the chest strap what people think is the best option? I am a little tight on money right now so I would like to spend as little as possible on this, but at the same time I want to get something that I know I can count on (I know, I know this is what everyone wants, but any suggestions of specific models would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance.

only, i mean it. only get a polar. they are the most comfortable and best performing. and i've tried 'em all.
go to the polar site and look at the features you must have. pare it down from there or stick with it all.
even the most basic one with current HR is a good starting point.

I concur. Go with a Polar.
Forget you ever saw an HRM that requires you to use two hands to get your pulse rate. That's utter and complete garbage. Absolutely useless for cycling.
Polar is the premier brand of HRM. While others may also be good, you can't go wrong with a Polar. There are planty of models depending on your budget. Get a bike mount while you're at it.
