All of this stuff about 26" vs. 700c has got me thinking, which is costly for me most of the time. I already have a good 700c touring bike. But I have this full suspension mountain bike hanging in my garage and I haven't ridden the thing in years. I tried selling it but could not get what I felt was a fair price so here is what I am thinking. It has decent components so I thought about building a 26" touring bike. I was thinking of buying a frame and switching the components from the full suspension bike. My problem is which frame. I thought perhaps a LHT but I would take a 22" or 62 cm frame and they don't seem to make a 26" frame in a LHT that large. My dream bike would be a Thorn Nomad or perhaps a BG but that is out of the question. Does anyone know of a frame that would not break the bank but would make a decent touring bike? My other thought is to just get a (REI) Novara Safari. So, what do you think? Thanks

i saw a pugsley today at the bike shop. AWESOME! but i think you need to have the superwide hubs etc. as the forks are just SO far apart and may not fit a regular set of wheels/hubs.
ebay a frame?

One of my tall friends just picked up a Safari,
the 2006 has disc brakes if you wanted that. IT seems like a very nice ride, even though it isn't made of steel :D The handlebars are uberdorky though, and it has gripshifters mounted like my polish grandmother fitted them on there instead of a proper bike mechanic.

I think that'd be the domestic bike you're looking for. But you can't buy just the frames from REI, as far as I know. Maybe you can?

Pugsley needs 135mm hubs front and rear. Use two "rear" mountain hubs.
