So I posted about that Schwinn Voyageur the other day and as I said in my post it needs a new front wheel. So here's what I want:

-A good 27" rim
-A decent front hub (I'm thinking something from the Shimano mountain line)

Now using eBay and what not I'd like to try to keep the cost of the rim and hub below $60. I'll be buying spokes and doing the build myself. What do you all recommend? And before you say get a 700c rim, I have reasons for keeping 27". I want a 27" rim both to match the size of the back rim and also you can pretty much get a 27" tire and tube in any podunk town in America, where as 700c can be a little bit of an ordeal depending on where you are. For tires I like the 27" Panaracer Pasela's so tire selection isn't really a problem.

Thanks for any input!

There are still 27" rims being built. There's not much of a selection any more and they aren't exactly performance rims but you can still get them.

And if you look hard enough you can find MA-2 or MA-4 27" rims here and there.

Sun makes a nice 27" rim, the CR18. Using them, I built the front and rear wheels for a Schwinn Super LeTour using the original hubs (still in pretty good shape after new grease and bearings) and 14 gauge Sapim spokes. They work fine.
