Foo - I now have BROADBAND :D!

Wow, just got confirmation then! Its all set up! ADSL that is...and wow, what a differnce in speed!

To think its only 512kbps we have currently, thats 10 times faster then what i've been using! Its also being shared between 2 computers and its still fast!

I downloaded music at 4kbps...now i'm downloading it at 20kkbps -50kbps. It used to take say 15 - 20min, now its take 2 - 3 min if that. Downloading videos and lenthing MechBgon Microsoft updates arn't a problem anymore! When I get used to this I fear i will never be able to go back to dial up again! Well we have 20gb bandwidth, so if we dont reach that a month it dosn't look like we will be slowed down!

And if...in time, i find 512kbps to slow, just pay $19 more a month and get 1500kbps! Wow.

Anyway thats my happy dance :D

And my neighbor just left, so I wasn't able to get my free broadband anymore. :( ;) Verizon is just taking forever, and I used to take comfort in the fact that I could get it from my neighbor. Now I'm forced to use Verizon dial up until they can get me my dsl line. :( :cry:

High Speed rocks!! I'm glad some co-workers talked me in to it about 5 years ago.

I'm about to get my brother and father to go to it now. It was a real hassle trying to remember all my old tricks fixing a modem for my dad every time it bugged out when I haven't worked on a modem (or Windows 98) in 5 years.

Now that you're on the most vulnerable part of the 'interweb' you might want to stop by and visit Steve at www.grc.com for some through vulnerability/stealth testing and suggested settings changes. Don't be afraid, even though his testing is to the core through, it's totaly safe.

Something I wasn't able to find at GRC was his "How-To" on TCP/IP bindings configuration. :(

Hmm seems I have a lot of work to do with the sheilding and the 'wep'ping to 'wpa'ing for the wireless...

Started off w/ ISDN. ADSL didn't have its commercial roll-out til a year or two later. Then I switched to DSL.

Got cable, i can push over 1000kbps, impressive.
You really see the benefits when you have adequate RAM too...

AT&T holds a monopoly on this part of our city.
sprint was going to give me service within 24 hours until they realized that AT^T held my lines and would not allow anybody else to resell any type of phone line related service

AT & charged 100 bucks and was a 1+ week waiting

Yes, but usually only in one direction (download), and always with shared bandwidth rather than bespoke bandwidth.

I first used high speed connections in 1995. First used a modem in 1996. Have never had high speed at home (not counting when living in a college dorm) despite doing consulting work in the computer industry.

I was a dial-up ***** for quite a long time.

My connection shows 10mbps on my adsl.

Jeeze 10mbps is good!
