I have a new Odyssey Hazard Lite wheelset (flip-flop rear axle) en route. Since ordering I've heard of problems with the rear hollow axles...

I weight 200 lbs & like to jump (street & trails)... Should I buy a solid rear axle?

Do you run pegs? No? Then it won't be a problem. And hollow axles have a better strength:ratio than solid axles, anyway.

No pegs.

Thanks!

I wouldn't know. I'm two time zones away and I'm at work.

Run what you have until it breaks, then re-evaluate.

I'm trying to build a bike that wont break anything in the near future.

Unless it does nothing more than sit in your garage and occasionally take you to 7-Eleven, you will probably fail. And unless you're already breaking axles there's no reason to assume you're going to, especially if it means throwing away a perfectly good hollow axle in favor of a solid one.

Your only other real option is to just use a 10mm-14mm conversion kit, which is basically a hat washer with a 10mm (3/8") inner diameter and a 14mm outer diameter.

I'm only replacing the rear axle (though I have 2 en route). That way I'll have a spare of each axle.

I'm still left wondering what a 'strength:ratio' ratio is.

=D

I kid.

They don't sell solid flip-flop axles anymore.
