Im working on an old Schwinn frame I bought and Ive run into 2 problems, 1 expected and one not. I expected to buy a new headset but I didnt expect my fork not to be wide enough to hold my front wheel. So Im going to buy a new fork and new headset. I thought this would be something I could do but this is my first build so I think Id rather have it done by someone with the right tools and know how. How much on average do you think they would charge to install a headset and fork?
Headset - $30, and if you buy the fork from them or nice enough, they might put the fork on for you free. Otherwise, probably $5-10 for that.

If it's a steel fork, can't you just spread it?

No. My '59 Raleigh's original front hub is narrower than that.

if its an old frame and if its a conversion.
Just save yourself the money and cold set your fork to 100mm spacing youself.
Just use a few 2X4's and apply leverage.
If you screw up, then buy the fork.

Is this old schwinn like a 26 1/8 wheel bike or something like a speedster?
Just curious how that works out for ya in case it is.
