Foo - Whatcha doin'?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

No, toboggans are what you ride in the snow down a hill. Anything else is just wrong.

Hey, my Langster will be in tomorrow. Might not get it till Tuesday though. In the meantime, I will be trying a Stumpy FSR Sat. One just can't have enough bikes with oil near $100 a barrel.

We can't really buy those things in the South. We normally just use trash can lids for the one day it snows a year.

Haven't Southerners corrupted the English language enough. Some things are what there are. Just because you never saw them before doesn't mean the name can be changed. ;)
Also, this is a beanie.

So I hear. I guess I'm going to have to go up to Asheville and do some riding with you on the Mellowdrome.
Track bike?? Neato. Me wants. You will be really hard to take pictures of now!

Yes the Mellowdrome. Good name for it.! I'm fearful my first time on the fixie will be memorable. How will I start or stop?

It will be easy as I'm laying on the ground after falling on the damn thing. It's just not natural to have pedals that don't ever stop.

You start just like you would on any other bike. You stop by putting backwards pressure on the pedals. You get used to it pretty fast.

:roflmao: I think you might be right. I want to be there to record your first time out, though I'm sure you'll be fine. I can't even get my toes in cages!

I won't be using cages, just my Look Keos from a spare bike. Cages are just too much commitment for me.

I can't get out of cages as easily as clipless pedals. I don't need to think of too many things at once. My brain is getting old.

Hey I see newbies ice skating that grab the boards and feet go flying. That's what I see happening to me on the fixie. :o

11-08-07, 08:09 PM
Well don't ride it on an ice skating rink. :p
Most people on cassette equipped bikes stop pedaling an then clipout. On a fixed it might be weird cliping out at speed or during a crash or bailing to avoid a crash. Its a weird feeling at first but on the track I don`t see anything like that happening. With cages you can stop your feet and the crank rotation will pull the cage from your feet. I think that might be the reason for the cage popularity on street fixed.

LOL, though I might do better on the rink. Just strap the bike to my back and skate around.
