Foo - Whatcha doin'?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Which one did you get? sorry if you already posted this, I must have missed it.paradox gave me my christmas gift early. He knew that I've wanted a trainer for some time now. He surprised me by getting me the CycleOps Fluid II. :D
Did you ride your fixed gear on the trainer? I've had mine on the trainer this past week and I like the feel compared to my road bike.Yeah, I did ride it with my FG. It was a little odd at first but I got used to it. :)
I have to get something to make my bike level though. Riding on a downward incline was somewhat weird to me.

I saw this, and thought of the ongoing war between jsharr and x136

The only question is, who's doing the voodooing?
agree with x on the phone book. it raises the front wheel, but allows it to turn side to side still. A riser block that has a groove for the wheel to fit in will lock the front end down and not allow you to turn the bars at all.

Its a trainer, why would you want to be able to turn the front wheel?

:)Why didn't I think of that. Thanks X.

to center the steering. if you get that riser block off by one degree, you either have to get off and readjust or live with it. I have tried both methods. My riser block sits in the garage unused and the phone book gets used all the time.

I leave those outside on all fours and use them as bike racks instead.

Hmmm...I just lean back and pull up on the bars a little to unweight it, then turn as needed. Never had to get off the bike to adjust the riser block. But then again, I place my riser block on a wood platform I built to make it better simulate the riding position on long uphills, so this may help.

+1 on the phone book. I open mine & set the wheel in the middle. Just like a riser block, but free!!! And you can research mortgage brokers while you ride. :D
Heading out on the choochoo.
For those of you celebrating, have a wonderful Christmas. For those of you abstaining, have an equally wonderful New Year :)
I cannot believe you mentioned New Years in here. I hate New Year.
Seriously. **** New Years. Communist pagan celebration designed to instill fear in the hearts of the ducks and geese of the world...
My hatred is due to my deep seated and ill founded hatred of champagne.

You guys use champagne at new year, weird.
Me I will use either Glenlivet or Remy Martin (if I have any left by new years)

Just got back from the sto'. Wow. I have to remember to never shop when hungry while there's a sale on filet mignon!
But I do have a beautiful little specimen on the grill now. If only I can keep the growlies to a low roar for a little longer. :o

I'm debating whether to go to the gym or not with this head cold. I probably caught this cold at the gym, shouldn't I return it there? I would hate to drip on all the equipment though. Perhaps I ought not to go today. What to do, what to do?
Take it easy BikeWNC. Treat yourself to a day off. Stay home, put some fluids in your body, and watch a movie.

That's probably the best thing to do. I have enough around here to keep me busy for sure. :)

O.M.G. That steak wa' da bomb, da BOMB, I tell ya! I could live on meat alone. I am a hardcore carnivore. :D
But, alas, I am too sensible to indulge too frequently in red meat. :(
Doing anything but work. Posted the announcement on my website about the scheduled down time I have planned tomorrow night for upgrades, even made a few posts in P&R this morning, browsed ebay for anything intresting. Had a long lunch. And then spiked Egg Nog afterwards.

Lookin' forward to HH. Today it's at Brixx Pizza. :)
Bout an hour till I'm starting my 4 day weekend. Tonight I"m going to the Garland Symphony Orchastra. My wife (Happyfeet) plays with them and with all my surgery this fall I hadn't gotten to see any of the performances this year so far.

Reading up on the Conconi Test and trying to see how I can do this test on my trainer.
So far it seems easy enough....I'll just have to store a course and some notes on exactly what to do.
Interpreting the data is gonna be a whole nother issue.
I was out running a few errands when I was in the supermarket. Walked by the ice cream aisle and noticed that Haagen Dazs was on sale. Happened to stop right in front of the pistachio flavor. Since I love pistachio, I love Haagen Dazs, Siu has been pitching pistachio flavored Haagen Dazs forever, and it's on sale, I decided to get some to try.

Ooooooh, HD is on sale here, too. I missed the pistachio! I'll have to go back tomorrow and look. I picked up chocolate, butter pecan, cherry vanilla, and rum raisin. :)
I wanna go to bed. It's been a long day.

Wazzit supposed to tell ya? Sounds like something that should be done while ridin' a Bianchi or Colnago. :p
I'm not a huge fan of the pistachio flavor. I guess Siu can breathe a sigh of relief and know that I won't compete with her for it in the supermarket aisle. :) I guess I'll keep my pistachio consumption and my Haagen Dazs consumption separate.
Oh, I'm not goin', I just want too.
If I went now, I'd be up at 2AM
Hope you have a good night, Stacey.

It's pretty easy to do on a trainer, but of course you need a power measuring device of some sort. If you are hoping to see a heart rate deflection you have to increase cadence with each step as well as wattage. I have done the test many times and only have seen the HR deflection a handful of times. It is still very usefull in that the highest level completed is a good measure of fitness and your LT is usually only one or two levels below failure.
I use a 20W step every 2 minutes.

You might want to try the MAP test. It determines max aerobic power and then training zones are based on a percentage of the test result. Though when I have done it on the trainer, I am always about 20 watts lower than a result from a test on the road. Damn trainer.

Yes the MAP test is also very good. Very similar to Conconi testing, in a way.
I use 10W every 30s for that one.

Trying to set a LT hr is kind of a hit or miss proposition without blood work. HR is so variable that it isn't very reliable. RPE is much better but power is best. It has gotten to the point I don't wear my hr strap at all anymore. I just use power or RPE.
